THR Seem to be going backwards

What a delightful update!

A doctor friend of my husband who works in A&E, said that the cause of most hip dislocations they see are people with THR getting out of the bath!
Wow! haven't heard this before. I am guessing from a slip and going down hard. Ugh...the thought.

I'm happy for you that you're doing so well. Thanks for sharing your journey here and please stay in touch!

My friend dislocated 2x's. Once doing gardening & another time tying her shoes. Go figure.
So I was hyper vigilant during early recovery days. Learned patience...guess whatever it was I thought I needed to do would just have to wait.

My newborn hip is 12 weeks old now. I have been taking baths for a few weeks as my consultant advised to avoid for the first six weeks only. I have a very deep bath tub so I sit on a little plastic stool. I am waist deep in the bath so it's easy to wash everything. Tis so lovely to be part soaking. I do not put any strain on the operated hip getting in or out and have not felt worried. I do have my phone nearby should I get stuck. I am looking forward to ditching the stool soon and really soaking with a book in hand.

I do not want to tempt fate but I wish I had been told that the chance of dislocation is actually very small for minimally invasive procedures. I worried about it far too much in the early weeks. My consultant pretty much told me at six weeks to just get on with life at my own pace. That said, I do find I move two steps forward and one step back. The latest is the muscles around the hip getting stiff and, as my body realigns, I am getting some back pain. I had a hot water bottle on it last night and it helped a lot.

I guess it is better to be extra careful than reckless. :)

We have stone steps leading down from our front door. I remember in the early days standing on the top step with both crutches convinced I'd never be able to leave the house again as I was terrified of tipping over. I do think it's your body telling you to be careful as something is amiss. I even remember wondering if I would be able to navigate the curb after I stopped using my crutches! Now I can't actually imagine not be able to do those thing. The body is a marvel!

Hi guys! After my six month update I have a question. My front groin which hurt to do the leg lift has not really got back to normal but it doesn’t affect everyday living. I discovered I could lift it much better doing the stationary marching exercise so did a few. No pain, weakness and only did five. The next day I noticed what seemed to me to be a huge lump or swelling just to the right of my pubic bone. It’s tender, but doesn’t hurt unless pressed. Very occasionally itches. I had a GP appointment about something else and happened to mention it at the end (the GP‘s nightmare!) And she had a look. She’s a bit flummoxed but seemed concerned and has prescribed antibiotics for two weeks, to come back if it doesn’t go away. Ruled out a hernia.
My concern is that it doesn’t feel like an infection, and I don’t want to take antibiotics if unnecessary as I have a very sensitive gut I don’t want to upset it further by killing all the flora. It seems a coincidence that I noticed it pretty immediately after doing the exercise, but not being an expert in anatomy, I don’t know what mechanism would be at work.
I’ve searched for lumps and swellings in the Bonesmart Search but haven’t found anything similar, but there may be something hidden away I haven’t seen.
Has anyone else had anything similar or any advice?
