Revision THR Second times a charm?

Here’s another one: I notice my toes appear to point inward on my replaced side just a bit while walking. Is that just part of healing also. I don’t want to end up pigeon toed.

@Sockeyewillie - I can’t help you there but mine point out now and they were always inclined to point inwards before. The OS said he’d corrected it for me.

I feel like when my legs are relaxed... they either flop inward or outward
Pigeon toed or bowlegged.
Our brain overthinks things that were possiby Fine til we started noticing.:nah:
Try not to stress.
I understand because of your complications, it would be hard not to...

I edited my post to indicate that I notice this only when I’m walking. That’s why it concerns me.

I'm guessing that is internal rotation. I had the opposite. As my hip deteriorated, my foot turned outward somewhat and my surgeon referred to it as external rotation. My OS told me that once my hip was replaced it would correct. Afterward, I noticed it was still somewhat the same and questioned it again at a post op visit and was told it would slowly resolve, which it did. I guess I am wondering if your foot was rotating inward pre-op?

I wonder if you've just adopted a different gait as you're healing? You may consider an evaluation of your gait to see if it's something you can easily overcome. It looks like you only ended PT ten days ago, I'm thinking if the therapist noticed anything unusual they would have commented on it. Don't hesitate to call your surgeon's office to ask questions. A member of his or her care team will likely have a logical explanation offering you reassurance.
@Sockeyewillie

Also, we always recommend purchasing new shoes once post op as the old ones have you old wear pattern.
I dunno, Willie...I'm stumped. :shrug:

Mine pointed outward in the beginning months but did resolve. I notice I really have to pay attention to heel/toe walking, this time of year wearing slides in the house I tend to scuff around. Not good.
Yesterday I had a bunch of errands in AM and when walking in parking lots I was in my mind going "heel/toe, heel/toe!
What a difference it makes in your gait.

Can we talk about scar/incision management? During my last follow up visit the PA talked about massaging the incision to manage the scar tissue. Today I was working on it and could feel a popping sensation. Is that sutures or scar tissue?

What you are feeling is probably soft tissues.

I can't figure out why some people are obsessed with surgical scars. The do a good job of healing left alone. No need to massage. Just let nature take its course. The scar will fade to a very thin line.

I’m not obsessed. It was just a simple question.
Sorry, I was not referring to you. That PA is one of many who are recommending what is really not needed. Up to you if you want to take their recommendation.

Milestone day. I was able to take my boy Max (GSD) for a twenty minute walk, cane free, Pennie free, and with real shoes that I put on and tied myself. Life is good one day short of one month.

That IS a milestone -- and I'll bet Max enjoyed it as much as you did!

But, now, take it easy the rest of the day so you don't end up on the ODIC bench tomorrow! :wink:

Wow! You're a big boy...even tied your own shoes for the trek.
Yay for you! Great progress. :walking:
@Sockeyewillie

I remember those days! I can finally do these outings again and I'm doing them! Yep! I know what to do to ward off the ODIC gremlins. LOL. Celebrate those milestones. They are well earned. Here's to many more. :yes!:

2 walks with Max today. 4 weeks after my surgery. When I get up in the morning I feel 100%, it doesn’t last very long but it sure is noticeable. Much different than the last time.
