July 18 will be TKR #2! The old knee feels like walking on gravel, so I look forward to this replacement with a sports model smooth working knee! Going to a different surgeon (in ATL ) this time who does this as OUTPATIENT!

Helen, did they want you to have PT the day after surgery? I can't imagine getting ready and traveling to PT on day 2.

KarriB, That is this new doc's protocol! I have been to this PT off and on for 12 yrs and they know me well. They assured me that they have worked with many of this doc's patients very successfully!

This will, no doubt, be a totally different ( and hopefully improved) experience! And, since we live in the mtns, getting dressed is optional!

Hello, Helen, it's nice to see you back, and I hope your second knee replacement goes smoothly.

Going to out patient PT on Day 2 does sound excessive, so only go if you really feel up to it.

You already know this, but I'm just reminding you: It's not exercising that gets you your ROM - it's time. Time to recover, time for swelling and pain to settle, and time to heal. Your ROM is there right from the start, just waiting for all that to happen, so it can show itself.

Helen, you are already on my prayer list! It will be a beautiful time to recover sitting on your porch in the coolness of your mountain. Will PT be coming to you those first days?

Who are you seeing? I'm in Atl and also had mine outpatient. I was able to get a reprieve to 2 days after surgery for my first outpatient PT visit. :dead: Sounds like we see the same Guy!

Best of luck, Helen! I had a THR and a thumb replacement since we last corresponded. I am finally truly on my recovery path now!

My surgery is scheduled the day before yours. I'm in the Piedmont area of NC, so we are practically neighbors! We have a cabin in NC mountains, hopefully it won't be too long before I'll be able to make the trip there after surgery, it's 1-1/2 hrs drive time from where I live. My OS says probably 2 days in hospital, I'm okay with that. He also says PT will start right away. I've just got to remember to not let them push me though. Best of luck on your surgery.

My surgeon is Dr. DeCook at Northside Forsyth. The hospital is 2 hrs from us, but my daughter lives 20 min from the hospital. Although, she has no bedroom on the main level of her house! Yikes! Hope I do come home on the day of surgery!! Lol!
I have the appt for the day after....we'll see if I actually go!

Hi Celle! Great to be back and know I have support here! Yes, I remember the mantra! Fortunately, I've been to this PT for 12 years! When I walk in the door, they start singing " Head, shoulders, knees and toes!" They know I will not be bullied.
