Revision TKR second option

Not open for further replies.
I am watching your thread with interest. I had my TKR on March 9, 2015. Currently I have patella issues with the patella catching and grinding over the joint. But now i have a new issue with the lower plate, and pain on the front and sides of the knee. So now i am fearful of a loosening or the plate on the bottom loosening. Did you have this issue also?
wberry yes right under the tibia component it is always sore. Also the outside of that area gets pretty sore also. My knee catches quit a bit. When driving its hard to move my knee from the gas petal to the brake petal. When it catches it is very painful.
The surgeon that did my TKR does do a lot of replacements. He was even bragging that he has people down hill skiing on his knees. Every time that crosses my mind I just think well what the heck happened here.
Even experienced, successful surgeons have knees that do not work out. they are only human after all---every knee cannot be a total success.
I understand that. I guess I'm just tired of surgeries and having this pain all the time.
just wanted to let everyone know i'm at the top of the callencation list. im pretty excited. hopefully it will be soon.
Sounds promising, let us know how it goes.

Wow. I'm glad you got that opinion. I'm going for another one. My revision is bad. Can't walk with out pain. Can't stand long time. Side of knee is sore. When I walk I fill it move. When I bend my knee it pops. Not like before but it does. So thanks for sharing post. This fourm has helped me.

Hope you get a sooner date. Xxx

Sorry it has taken me so long to update. I had my revision done on the 22 of Sept at 8am. I was back in my room by noon. Everything went great. Found out a lot about the original replacement and I kept my components.

So the original replacement loosened and damaged the bones in both the femur and tibia. So I now have these titanium rods running up and down my leg. When my amazing OS made the incision and got it opened up the patella fell right out into his hand. So it wasn't attached to anything. So I wasn't losing my mind when I thought my knee cap was moving up my leg. With all that went wrong no wonder I needed morphine for the pain.

Anyway that first day after the spinal wore off and I was feeling up to it, pt came in and I was amazed at how little pain I had. We walked using the walker (camo walker I had to decorate it, love the duck tape) and I went up a flight of stairs and back down. (the real stairs in the hospital, not the wood ones in the pt room) with the original one I could only do a couple steps the next morning and I cried the entire time. I remember the pain was horrible the first month. I had to be put on morphine just to control that pain.

This time is so different. I had one bad night in the hospital where we had a hard time controlling the pain but the nurse got that under control without using morphine. I am now 9 days post op. I am using a cane and have been for probably 3 days. My flexion is 110 and my extension is 0. This recovery was suppose to be the hardest and it has been great so far....
Welcome back, glad to hear your revision is going so much better than the TKR. Your ROM is great this early in recovery, as the swelling goes down it will improve. Thanks for updating.

What does your new OS say about your Left knee?

Here is the post op reading for you, the articles are short and will not take long to read.

First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lay down!

@jd2207 Congrats!! I go in next week Oct 6, 2015 for my revision. I have a catching patella and my knee does a funny twist when I bring it forward. Revision specialist says I have a lot of looseness in the joint ligaments. Plan is to upgrade spacer, revision of top component and fix patella. Did you keep your knee cap? I have mentioned sourness on my lower section below knee, but OS thinks its the joint looseness, I am sure he will check my lower and upper when he gets in there.
Welcome to the recovery side again!

I hope that things continue to go more smoothly for you this time.
Sounds like you're off to a good start! Don't get cocky and start running around now:tennis::heehee:
