Hi everyone.....what a great forum....so glad I found it....only wish I had found it BEFORE my THR, it sure would have helped answer questions.
Have any of you been bothered by sciatica since your surgery? It just "looms" there and one wrong move and ZAP, down my butt and leg.
If you have been bothered by sciatica, what have you done for it? Thanks and I hope you all heal very soon and we can all look back to this as a "good thing".

I have not been bothered by sciatica but back in Dec my SI joint went out (I assume because of how I have been limping). Shooting, burning pain down the back of my leg all the way to the bottom of my foot. Feels just like sciatica but is the SI joint. It has taken Chiropractic(to put it back) and PT (to get the muscles strong enough to hold it in the correct position) and a LONG time.(there again probably because of how bad my limp is) Last week was the first week since just after Christmas that all symptoms have cleared. Mainly the numbness in the ball of my foot was the most persistent. It does seem to bother women more than men.
I tried the muscle spasm relaxers the Dr. had given me but they didn't seem to to touch it. It was a heating pad(love my heating pad), Chiro, and strengthening the muscles that helped.

Best wishes,
Donna

You know the interesting thing about THR is how many times people have afterwards discovered they have back pain! So many times it is either masked by or included in the hip pain. Also, of course, the abnormal gait etc., doesn't help.

I would strongly recommend a chiropractor. Mine is my hero as he cured my long-standing 'nurse's back'.

Josephine, are chiropractors concerned of working in people who have had hip or knee replacement (or any joint for that matter ie:shoulder?)

You mean will they take care? Of course they will (or should, anyway!)
