Hi again!

Is anyone willing to post pictures of their scar post hip replacement? I see there is another thread of scars and pictures -but I only see a few scar pictures. I'm interested in seeing what the sizes can look like after surgery. (I'm having minimally invasive surgery).

You've probably came across mine, so I won't scare anyone again. Scars can range from 3 or 4 inches on the low end to 12 - 14 inches in the more extreme cases; depending on the surgeon, the approach, and your physical characteristics.

The main thing is to get the appliance placed correctly, not the size of the scar. sometimes the surgeon needs more room than origionally thought to get things right. I've one of the larger ones seen on the forum and my recovery has been about average to those I've networked with. In other words, the length of my incision has not hampered my recovery.

I agree with mudpro. I was warned by an OS friend or 2 not to get caught up with the size of the scar. Minimally invasive is great if available, but you want things to last. I've seen yours mudpro, and it's big. But you had resurfacing, didn't you? Unfortunately, I was not a candidate for MIS and my doctor, after describing resurfacing and telling me how great it was, recomended THR for me.
All that being said, I'll show you mine (when it's done) if you me yours!

That's a good point. Yes, Tom, I will post when it's all done. I plan on writing a separate blog with pictures -need to keep myself occupied during recovery!

I had a friend take photo's the week after surgery, but I am pretty computer illiterate and never did figure out how to post. I'll have someone help me this week. I'm adding my back too.
I actually am very proud of mine and don't care much about the size. My hip one is posterior and only about 5 inches. My doc told me he is able to have part of the incision under the skin. I never did talk about size with him , just told him to take all the room he needed and whatever type of incision he was the most comfortable with.

Yes, my procedure was resurfacing and not a THR. But I've met resurfacing patients with scars only 4 or 5 inches long and at least one THR patient whose scar is about the same as mine. Alot depends on your condition.

Hi there,

I won't put a picture up but mine is a big one, probably 12 inches, doesn't bother me at all, I wear swimmers etc, and it's visible, but I just look at it as another memory of a chapter in my life and I much prefer the scar than the pain I was in. Some people get tattoos I seem to get scars. LOL Can't tell you what position mine is, it's to the side of my butt.

Chris :)

Hi Melissa! If I can pin one of my kids down long enough to show me how - I will post a picture of my scar. I had a posterior traditional THR and the scar is about 8-9 inches long. But as Chris said - I could care less about the size of it, I'd happily live with one twice that length if it meant I was pain free (as I am now on that side)!
Now where are those kids..................???

Hi Melissa,

I had traditional THR and my scar is exactly 6" long. Don't want to post a picture yet, cause it's still covered with steri-strips, but I'm sure proud of it! Maybe I can get my husband to take a picture of it one of these days.

Hey Jo--are you going to make the hippie scar photo thread a sticky? It's starting to get lost . . . (we still seem to be a bit shy, but I'm sure at least a few more brave souls will post eventually--me included!)

Me too . I just need to get a better photographer than the one I used the last few days. Then my youngest to post the pictures or hopefully slow down so mom can learn

Karen! Your strips are still on? Thought that's why they called'em strips!!! (Sorry!)LOL!!! :)

Hi all -Just want to let you know I posted my scar photo under the Scar photo thread Josephine had created. It's still in the early stages, but I'll post again once it's all healed too. My incision is about 5 1/2 inches.

I just checked it out Melissa - looks good! You are doing SO well........it will all be downhill from here! :)

(And I WAS planning on posting a photo of my scar but I don't think I want it up there alongside your gorgeous young leg! LOL)
