Today, I was in a hurry and ran out to my truck, then realized I had forgotton something and RAN down the stairs of my house--and then ran up them. I was rushing outside to my truck when I thought----wait a minute here!!!

I could not believe it and went inside and ran up and down again.
Without holding onto the railing!! Before my surgery I had to hold onto the railing and would labor up the stairs like as rhino. This is the first positive sign I have seen in this recovery business.

Show off!!

Congratulations, ski! I don't have enough flexion to easily go down stairs, let alone run down them. Now I must live vicariously through you. I know . . . I'll swim for you and you do stairs for me. Deal? (Back in the day, when I was still running, I couldn't get enough of stair running. Ah, good times.)

Wow Oh Wow,
Ski I can just see you in my minds eye comming back in the house and going huuuhhhhhh
And then run up the stairs then back down and yelling Yehhhhhhhhh Baby. That is the one thing I wanted was to be able to run up the stairs like Rocky did!!!

Great going, Ski! But hold on to the rail.....don't get too cocky, now! Just glad you CAN do it!!! :)

Ski,

Celebrate the victories!!! It makes it easier to handle the rest of the times.

I can't do stairs very fast yet. I take them slow and easy...better safe than sorry.

Congratulations!!! You are on your way to healing.

Skigirl, I loved the part where you went back and did it again out of sheer joy. What a great story!!! You rock!!

Surfsister---you will have to ski for me because i really suck at swimming. It is so hard to swim in the lanes where people who can swim are constantly lapping me!!! And I make a lot more splashes than they do too. I find it easier to lie on my back, hold my kickboard and just kick with my flippers---at least my legs are strong and they propel me through the water. I need to take some swimming lessons!!!

I felt that way about swimming last summer too. Then I got Ok with it. Now i have not swam laps since last Nov. I'll probably have to learn all over again. I remember after my hip replacment at about 3 1/2 weeks when i first went to the pool, there was a lady who is 90 and she beat me.

About the stairs. Way to go. I remember when I used to run up and down the stairs. :wow:

I never did learn to ski because of this knee. I hurt it when I was 17. I've skied once in my entire life and that was cross country skiing. I'm not the fastest swimmer in the pool, but I'm pretty strong. I will send you some swimming karma. You, in turn, can send me some surfing karma. No, send me some flexion karma! I need more flexion!

I'm so happy for you, Kelly! I swear, if I had 10 more degrees of flexion, I'd be back to my pre-surgery ROM. There's a lot of scar tissue in this knee, which is balking at bending any further. So, I will keep positive by picturing you grinning ear to ear as you run up and down the stairs.

Hey great going, its the little things that make all the difference....isn't it good when you forget you've got a fake joint!

Happy for you, girl! I had a day like that ... I think it was about 5 weeks ago. And then my 'good' knee started up!

Rats!

Jo, I am sorry to hear about the bad, good knee! I don't think I could take it if the other knee started up. I have had good luck with the efflexor injections ---which I used last year during ski season. Also, I had an unloader brace which made quite a difference in my ability to both ski and walk. Kelly

Kelly -- just popping back in here and there and saw your post and I am just thrilled for you!!! It's a big victory to do it without holding on and I am still marvelling at being able to do it!! The best part about the new knee is all those times - which happen one by one -- when you totally forget about the new knee and the limitations that preceded it -- and just do what your body is meant to do!! So cool, Kelly!!!!!
