Okay, today was the bike riding day!! It was so much fun--I loved soaring along on my bike, But I did buy some flat pedals--my pt was so afraid that I would fall while clicked into my pedals and hit my knee!! (He is a replacement for my grandmother)

I did eight miles of easy riding on bike trails that are paved. I loved it. I am just past 10 weeks--am icing my knee as I speak, but things look good, no pain at all.

I was careful on the bike--and when I had pain riding uphill, I walked the bike to the top of the hill and then cruised on down. What a blast---I love moving fast and I feel like I have been dragging myself around this summer, it was fun to fly, just a little.

I took off at exactly 11 am mountain time and was thinking of Sewell44 and Surfsister--did you two bike together and was it fun?

I know that I still have to work hard in this rehab, but it was fun to be silly for a while too. Today, after the ride, I swam in the cold lake to help my knee.

I am jealous . I am 15 days post surgery and still can't get a complete rotation on my stationary bike. I'm close . Maybe this weekend.
How much flexion is required do you think? I am around 96 degrees right now.

Back in my olden days (okay, high school, the 80s), I did marathon biking. I'd ride, daily, from Anchorage to Eagle River. At the time, it was 13 miles (of course now, with both towns growing, they're probably closer together). So, 26 miles total. Every day. I loved it.

Fast forward to adulthood, kids and all that... I got a bike so I could take my kids biking on some of our bike trails. I did that for only two years before the whole knee thing happened. We used to have to drive to the bike trails!

At the moment, my dad has my bike and since the last time we biked as a family, they've added miles of bike trails (all paved) and now we wouldn't have to drive to a bike trail.

Too bad my kids aren't into 'hanging out with Mum' anymore.

Skigirl, you've made me want to go biking again... I miss that feeling of flying.

Our Tour de Bonesmart was a comedy of errors . . . and fun. We settled on the Rose Bowl as our riding venue. I've done so much training there in the past. It's a great place to workout when there isn't an event scheduled. Little did we know that there was an event scheduled. After several text messages and one phone call, we finally found one another in Parking Lot I.

To make a long story short, I got about 9 miles in. I think Sewell got about 6 miles before we heard that horrible hissing sound that signals a flat. I had a tube, a pump and the like, but my tube didn't fit her tire. We waited for my husband to come back around—since the Rose Bowl route is one big loop—and he dealt with the tire. We got her rolling again, but accompanied her back to the car. Then we took off on one more loop.

It was hot! No, it was hot as $@#! out there! But ride we did. I had no trouble clipping in and out of my pedals. My knee balked a bit at the bend required to ride. I think the heat made it swell a bit. We rode slowly though. We also managed not to get run over. Normally, the road is wide open for everyone. Today, there were cones everywhere. Barriers were being put up as we circled the Rose Bowl. Drivers were completely confused by all of this so it got a little dicey dealing with the traffic.

I had fun though. Sewell is a kick! I don't know how she does it. I really don't.

Skigirl, you swam after the ride? I swam at 5:30. We rode at 10:00. How far are we going on the next stage of the Tour de Bonesmart?

Wow! So glad you girls really DID IT!!! And hope none of you are too sore tomorrow!!! Good going!! :)!

Tour de Bonesmart now that really sounds great!!! So glad that you got to meet each other. It sounds like you both had fun. Now go ICE LOL

This is a wonderful FIRST!!! I only wish we had some photos, though!!! You guys are GREAT!!!

Okay, I have to confess, I still can't get a whole rotation around my bike, it requires around 105 flex and I'm not there. But, I did rock back and forth for 10 minutes in the gym. This was after my first 1 hour water aerobics class.

I checked out the potential classes available and decided to start with the 'Golden Sneakers'. Since it sounded like a bunch of golden oldies, I took Sara my 16 year old workout buddie with me. I pleaded, "please don't make me be the only young one in the class." To this she replied "Great, I'll be the only teen in there!"

We had a blast! Some people said they don't move much in there. Shows they have never had their knee replaced! Those golden oldies can hang with the best of them. Most were in their 60's and 70's, one in her 80s on oxygen and one in his 90s. I told the woman with the oxygen I might have to come get a hit. Made her laugh.

Turns out the instructor has had both her knees done. Along with many others in the class plus a number of Hipsters too. Like a big gathering of Bonesmarties.

The only downside was we were running a few minutes late because I had to take 2 children different places before hand and still shower quickly before entering the pool at 9 am. I say this because we tried to slip in the back, but NO, that was not to be. Sharon, the instructor came through the group of 18 to grab Sara and me by the hands, claiming we were her new class pets and took us to the front of the class declaring "We have a new knee here today". Wouldn't have been so bad if everyone didn't see me grimace every time I did a bend or hop or stretch.

She even stayed after class to show me a few new exercises to get the most ROM. It was pretty awesome. Even hung out for 10 minutes in the hot tub with 3 other TKRs and discussed the knees. They said mine looked better than most.

So even though my bike ride was less than par, I did have a great work out and gained enough ROM today to be able to climb out on the ladder. First time that has happened since last year! :wahey::wahey::wahey:

Rose,

I am so glad to hear about your pool workout---that is going to be the ticket for you, I can feel it from here in Montana. Pretty soon you will be pedalling that bike all the way. Good work!!

Thanks Kelly! The pool seems to be giving me the best work out right now and it's a lot of fun too. I sure hope I am able to do the bike soon. All my children and grandchildren have bikes and we have such great family friendly bike trails here that I can't wait to get out on.

I start pt again at the new facility at 8:30 in the morning. Can't wait to see what I get to do there. So much equipment I'm not using, yet such potential! First time I'm excited to go to pt. :sct:

I, too, rode my road bike last week. I'd forgotten to take my helmet on our trip, so we went and bought one. Then I rode my bike down the street that my daughter lives on. So many cars were parked along the sides so I was having to stop whenever cars passed by which hurt my knee a lot. I got back to daughter's house and she laughed and said she'd timed my ride at six minutes. So glad to get back to my good ol' exercise bike in the living room!

Pat

I'm finally home. Well it was hot, crazy, I got my usual flat tire and loved meeting surf and her husband. I am so glad he was there. I toldl him I would not get on my bike again until I have learned some basic bike maintenance and carry a spare tube.
Although surf and I really heard the hisssssssssss, after her husband got through with it there was no evidence of a flat. I did not take any chances and stopped at my car.
Jamie I did remember I had my camera and had a picture taken. Now I need to get my lovely daughter to get that pic on this site some how.
I finally got to meet a bonesmartie.
