I had KR surgery last March 5 which is almost 5 months ago. I am doing great with the knee. No more pain & able to do so much more now. Am sooo grateful! I still have to take it slow going up & down steps. I am doing lots better on the recumbunt bike with pedaling but I seem to be moving my torso sideways as I pedal. I can't figure out why my torso does that. Anyone out there who knows anything about this? I plan to have my other knee done in Jan. I had nausea after taking pain med (hydrocodine) after a month on that. I then tried tramadol for a wk but then got nausea with that so went to tylanol(3 at a time)& sometimes advil which didn't help much at all with pain. I am so hoping that won't be a problem again with the nausea. Having nausea with the knee pain is awful. Am wondering how I will combat that if it happens again. Am hoping to get information on how to avoid the nausea & still have strong pain medication for the knee pain. Hopefully they can give me something for the nausea along with the pain med.

Can I ask, Sharon (another Sharon?!) are you a little on the large size? Meaning do you have a bit of a tummy?

I do, and I find the recumbent bike impossible as my belly won't let my (also generously proportioned) thighs come up high enough! I have to lean waaaay over each side to get my foot 'over the top'. The gym instructor kept telling me off for it until we agreed that I should stick with the upright bike which is much better.

They have medications that take care of the nausea so ask your doctor and if the first one doesn't work have him change your prescription until he finds one that does. There is more than one kind and anything, even pain, is better than nausea. Good luck. Rowdy

No, Josophine, I am not on the large size. I am short & average sized. I have alittle bit of tummty but it does not protrude. Thighs are on the slim side, so I don't know what is going on.

Could it be that your ROM is not yet good enough to ride the recumbent bike? I have a recumbent bike and I cannot even use it at this point because I cannot get my torso twisted ENOUGH to be able to pedal it, as my knee will not bend far enough. If your ROM is okay, maybe you need to move the seat back a bit?

Thank you for your reply, Kimgrif. My rom was 107. Maybe that needs to be higher to ride the recumbent bike? Tonight I went ten minutes on the bike. It is like on the left side of torso (I had left knee done) my torso there moves higher than other side. I don't know if that makes any sense. Hope to ride longer tomorrow. Maybe the more I ride the bike it will straighten out. Hope so. Otherwise I am very happy with my new knee. Am looking forward to when i can take long walks after my other knee is done.
