YO Gang!

Well it has been a little over 2 months since my BTKR and here is my report card. Friday, my PT measure my left knee (the one which had the hematoma and was cut on twice) as 120 – 0 and my right knee 121 - -1. I do not need any aid in walking and can get in and out of the car with no problem. Walk up and down steps. I can also drive with no problem ( but my wife would tell you different). I am still stiff, have swelling and I still think I could cook a egg on my knees they are so warm. I have problems with my sleep and still take pain meds before PT and at bedtime. Please let me know how I am doing at two months. My PT tells me I am ahead of the game. I would like to here from the people that has been through TKR and let me know how I am doing. Thanks to all.

God Bless,
Rick

RickB I would say you are doing spendidly. If you go back and read some of the posts you will find the warm, stiff knees and swelling are par for the course at two months. Plus, remember you had problems with the one leg that most don't have to deal with so you have to take that into consideration. Sounds like you are really doing great. Congratulations. Rowdy

It sounds to me like you are doing just fine. I am over three months now and still have some swelling and pain, but it is all much different than at two months! My rom is from 0 to 135(depending on the day!)

Rick

Well you are way ahead of me. I had a BTKR on June 3rd and did not reach 120 to 123 on the left till about 5 months and the right is still at 115 on a good day but more like 110 -2 on a bad day. A recently problem put the extension up to -7. Swelling and siftness come and go, it has been rainy and that does not help.

At 2 months I was taking a pain pill before PT and did that till about 3 months. Pain has not been my problem.

I had sleep problems at two months and that did not straighten out till I took a short course of lorazapam an anti-anxiety agents. I found out this is a common side effect of surgery called learned/condition insomnia and a short course of the anti-anxiety agent and good sleep hygiene (go to bed and your normal time and get up at your normal time no matter how little sleep you got, if you can't sleep once you go to bed, get up and go to another room and read or do something else till you get sleepy). I know the lack of sleep can make you want to kill someone so I hope you can get a quick handle on it.

I am jealous of your great ROM so early out. Well time to exercise.

Simon

i am 13 weeks out and went back to work on 11/3. My ROm is 110 and -5 and the dr. is fine with that. So you are doiing very well! Still have slight swelling and probs with sleeping. Try to take Ambien rarely, as it is very addictive. I can go up stairs normally, but only "old lady" style down. Also fell 1st day back at work and needed 2 people to get me up. I take Vicodin if I need it at night only. Numbness improving, but still there 24/7. So you are much better at 2 mos than I am at 3 mos. Congrats!! I am very impatient and want everything 100% yesterday. Good luck and keep up great work.
