I've only just come across this site but am hoping some one may have had the same problem as me so can give me some reassurance. I had bilatral partial knee replacements in August 2005. Great until April this year when I had to have revision surgery on my left knee as the UKR had come loose. I had a full replacement then. For the first couple of months after surgery things were fine but then I started experiencing pain as I had had before the TKR. I saw my surgeon last week and, after looking at new xrays, he said the replacement has collapsed again and I will have to have it replaced yet again, but this time with a longer stem. This is due to happen in November.

I am, to say the least, upset and fed up at the thought of having to go through it all again. It was only two weeks ago that I was discharged form physio after the April op! Has anyone else ha the same thing happen to them and has the problem now been solved? (I am 58 years old) Lin

First Welcome to this forum. I am a 12 week post of hippy so unfortunately no advice on this.
I am so sorry this has happened to you . Others with more knee experience will be communicating.
The best news is Josephine will answer you.
Hang in there (I know that is difficult)

WElcome to the best place you could have ever found.

Hi Lin
I am new to the site also, i had a revision may this year(the original only lasted 2yrs) as the prosthesis had become loose through various other things. My OS put the longer stem in to stabilise the joint.as he had to cut more bone away I wonder why he didnt put the longer stem in i would imagine Josephine will help you on this I feel really sorry for you Lin these knee problems really take it out of us.(i am 55yr old mum)

HOLY COW!!! There is a thread I started about my FAILED Oxford Partial right here on this site. Mine only lasted seven months!! I am heading in on this Friday morning to have my revision to a full TKA.. Makes you wonder about the partial's.. I will NEVER RECCOMEND one to anyone, and am looking forward to what the surgeon has to say about the installation of the Oxford I had. I recevied one of my second opinions from a very prominent surgeon that is the Medical Director of a hospital and he told me they are extremely difficult to perform. This is in part due to the problems associated with alignment of all the angles involved. Good Luck with your revision!!
Dan

Gosh - what can one say! That is a truly awful experience for someone to have to endure. Can't say I have ever heard of a case like it.

Thank you all for your replies and support. Lin
