My revision is scheduled for May 2 and am concerned about my femur. When the surgeon was looking at my bonescan, he commented that the bone was very thin and to be careful not to fall. I can hear and feel movement with certain movements (that I try to avoid) and am wondering if that is dangerous for the bone. I hear about bone grafts. Is this due to the wearing of the bone by the movement of the lose prosthesis?

Thanks!

He could have meant a number of things, Marcia. Maybe it was a particular point and yes, caused by the loose prosthesis. He could have meant the bone density overall or he could have meant some aging process. To be honest, I couldn't really say without more information or sight of the xray.

IN what respect do you mention bone grafts? If the thin-ness is due to erosion from the prosthesis, a graft is not usually necessary as he will likely use a longer stemmed prosthesis which will effectively splint the bone from the inside.

The xray (bonescan) does show the thinness of the femur all along the bone. I don't know how to explain it. The prosthesis is loose all around and broken off the last inch or so. He did say he was going to "drill" further down.
