I have had multiple knee replacements/revisions and now need another on both my knees. I have had 2 ortho surgeons. The 2nd being a revision specialist. I’m getting discouraged. I’m looking for some names of other revision specialists to get a second opinion.

So I had my revision on the 25th. The plan was to replace only the tibial component. The surgery was to be about 2 hours. Apparently, it ended up being 4 & 1/2 hours. The femoral component was also loose and there was a fracture to the femur. He doesn’t want any range of motion for the 1st 2 weeks so I am in a jones dressing with an immobilized.

It's good that the loose femoral part was found and replaced. Sorry to hear about your fracture. Don't worry about being in a brace or your ROM. Each one of my knees was in an immobilizer for 6 weeks after each of my kneecaps were removed. When finally able to remove them, my knees were stiff, but as I started to use them they loosened up and my bend came back in just fine.

Welcome to recovery yet again, @joramb.

Just to clarify - You had a total revision of your left TKR on November 25th. Is that correct?
I've added that to your signature, but if it's not correct, please let us know. Thank you.

Although this is probably all old hat to you, I'll give you a copy of th recovery guidelines, as a refresher:
Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. Try to follow this

6. Access to these pages on the website

The Recovery articles:

So they cultured the prosthetics that were removed. Cutibacterium acne grew out on a subculture.
My surgeon states it’s nothing to worry about. I have been having low grade fevers at night for 2 weeks.
I’m already on augmentin for life because of 2 previous infections.
Am I just being paranoid?

Pain really bad right now and feeling pretty blue

I'm sorry you are in such pain and I know how that makes you feel. Hopefully meds will kick in and give you relief. You have been through a lot and I hope you feel better soon. Take care!

Thanks everyone. Today was a little better. I think it is a combination of pain and fear. 3 weeks out from surgery and I am still running fevers at night. I have an appointment with my Infectious Disease dr on Tuesday. I know this healing is a long process but sometimes you just need to lie down and have a good cry.

I know this healing is a long process but sometimes you just need to lie down and have a good cry.
This is so true :console2:

Let those tears fall. They are healing, emotionally and physically! I am glad you are feeling better.

sorry to hear you are having so many issues. I too am faced with having a revision on a partial that failed and now a tkr that is "lax". My doctor wants me to get a second opinion. Can you please share with me your experience with the revision? I have the maximum size spacer (20) and it is not big enough for the space therefore causing instability. Thank you

Isuretri , everyone’s journey is as different and unique as our bodies are. My 1st revision placed the largest size spacer also. I have had chronic infections so bone loss through that and osteolysis.
My new revision that I just had uses cones, bone grafts and offset stems. I also have straps around my femur in hopes of keeping the fracture from becoming worse.
Make sure you go to someone who specializes in revision.
The pain & emotional roller coaster have been different for all 6 of my surgeries. Feel free to private message me with any specific questions
Finding your way here to Bonesmart is a tremendous help.

Hello,
I truly hope you’re doing better now. i admire your strength to get through this.
I myself am facing a revision. Still in the process of tests. I’m hoping it will only be a one stage revision.
it is depressing dealing with this discouragement. Thank you for advice to seek a surgeon experienced in revisions.
I’m hoping for you, and myself, that revision with a competent surgeon will take away the pain of years.
Thinking of you.
