Revision TKR Revision again

:console2: Have you told your doctor how bad your pain is? Maybe they will try a different medication.

As I read this 5 days post-op I hope your pain has been managed and that you are home to relax! Best of luck in this recovery!

I'm glad you've had the revision, but sorry to hear you're in pain. Be the squeaky wheel and don't hesitate to bug them on a regular schedule (like every 4 hours) for additional pain medication. Don't wait until it hurts. It's better to keep ahead of the pain by taking the meds regularly through the day and night. I can imagine that this surgery is more painful than your last one because of the size of the wound. That would normally indicate the surgeon had to do a lot of work, which can translate to additional post-op pain. All the more reason for you to insist that they keep working to find medications that keep you comfortable.

Have you talked with your surgeon about what he found? Who was it that ended up doing your revision at HSS?

Sorry to hear you are in such excruciating pain, hoping you have stronger meds soon to help.
Sending positive thoughts your way.

@patsortho - I'm sorry you're in such pain. Do let your surgeon know, and see if you can be prescribed something that works to dull the pain.

By the way, since you haven't had an MUA after this latest revision, would you like to suggest a different title for your thread? If you can think of something you'd like, we'll change it for you.

@Celle how about “revision again” . I may need another Mua because she don’t want to bend at all.

@Jamie dr blevins at hss did my revision. He is fairly new to hss he did a great job. I’m just in an incredibly amount of pain. It just won’t go away. I am almost straight which is a good thing. The problem is bending . But, I am only 8 days po. Home Pt thinks it will bend in time. I’m on oxy 5 , 2 tablets every 3 hours . She wants me to take a long acting one as well

What about your swelling? If its swollen, even a little, that can hamper the ROM. (The voice of experience speaking here.) I would think being elevated and icing would be beneficial for you. Of course while taking pain meds.

Hopefully the pain is lessening. You know this is a slow process & each surgery is totally different.

Patsortho,
I hope your OS can help you get your pain under better control.
Your soft tissue has been through a lot in the last few years and I can understand that your knee is very painful.
To help with the inflammation/swelling ask your PT about lymphatic massage, they may have a certified lymphatic specialist on their staff that could see you.

Pumpkln's suggestion is a great one. Perhaps there would be someone connected with your Home Health company who could do lymphatic massage for you. Or possibly your GP could put in an order for this if your surgeon is not aware of how much benefit this could be for you.

There are many options for pain medications, so continue to let your surgeon know when things aren't working. Hang in there.....we just need to get you through this really rocky period up front.

If you're in fairly significant pain, it is likely that whatever swelling is there is impacting your flexion. It's GREAT to hear your extension is better already. That's usually the more difficult to get (it normally takes more time that flexion).

You have been through so much. You are in my prayers.

Hello friends . So odd thing I’m not sure if it’s normal . Os used glue for my incision well on the top and bottom, it’s starting to open. Well home health took wound vac off, she didn’t bring any bandage with her no steri stripes or anything. I told os office that after we took would vac off it looked a little open. Very tiny parts on top and bottom . I bought steri stripes and my sister applied them on Monday. Checked them today and bottom one had drainage

No bandages? No gauze? No nothing? I can't even wrap my head around that - to me that's inexcusable. I know each time they (home health) were here they had a full aray of medical supplies with them. I can't understand why your's didn't. That just doesn't seem correct to me, but I'm not there, nor a home health worker.

I'm glad that your sister helped you out. When you see your OS again I'd make certain to relay this to him.

Hopefully things will turn around for you. Do not over do - that's just not going to benefit you or your baby knee. Feel better.

@eaglemom I see him this coming Tuesday. I did call him Monday after nurse left and he was one that said to go buy steri stripes. Think I will call him tomorrow

You shouldn’t have to go buy anything, it should have been provided.

@Jockette i agree! Os was very disappointed in how unprepared she was . She was suppose to monitor my o2 . In hospital it was in the 80’s and low 90’s. She didn’t bring that either. She was one of those “money only” type of nurses . Thankfully the Pt guy brings one everyday . I will call my os tomorrow

I'm so sorry for your unending saga of pain. I wish I had a secret formula I could share and the pain would be better. I don't recall what pain medication your taking. Are you making certain to take your pain med on a specific time schedule? Maybe change up how you are laying and elevating. Just try to change one something in your recovery and see if that helps.

Will home health or the nurse be there today? Can you call them and share your level of pain and see if they have any suggestions? Again I'm grasping at straws trying to think of something to help you.

Pain really stinks I have had plenty of experience and waiting on surgery date for #7 revision on the same knee. This may help since it has helped me put a pillow under knee and put an ice pack on the knee. Make sure you have a towel cloth something so you do not get frostbite on the skin. Therapists will always say no longer then 15 - 20 minutes I have gone as long as 30 to 40. I fully understand the pain issue I dread the first month following surgery. No matter what you do it is going to hurt and yes you have to somehow manage to do therapy as well. The extreme pain will go away but it takes time. Something to be aware of is an infection. If your knee turns red running a fever hotter then normal are all warning signs. I had one no fun image extreme pain and a fever of 103 not good. You will get thru this.

Pain wears on a person and as long as you've been in it, I can't imagine how tough it's been for you. I wish I had pixie dust to sprinkle over your pain and make it go away. Fortunately, I have hugs to send you and you can tell by reading these posts that you're in everyone's thoughts.

Hugs!
