I have tried twice this past week to thank you for all your warm wishes, and to regale you with several funny hospital ediquete stories. I haen't saved the ducuments...and at the end of all my wonderful stuff..the meaasage center gys send me a very curt..so sorry, your post has been rejected! They suggest several reasons, all of which are bogus...but long and short ai give up feeling very uncared for! This will be third attempt, and plan to just write in shorter snipits, in case I overload the system with all my lenght..
So,I went in last Thursday, July 23, with lots of your warm wishes...had the spinal, had a morphene pump, got off that after three days...made me too wosey and just focused on vicodin and some anti-inflamatory stuff they give you. There were TWO other patients in the entire wing..I was treated like royality, coudl order my own choice of meals from "room service"..Had CPM motion on and off each knee about two hours..total of 6 per knee. Was up next day..not nearly the rushing of blood, etc. to knees when I stood...Slept with use of ambien off and on two three hours then two hours etc.
did have a very low blood count, red cells, more blood loss then anticipated, so third day got two units of blood, felt like a new person!
Now, let's try for the funny story..one of them. Day 4, very pregnant nurses aide comes in says" I will change your bed, when you want to get up to clean up. I wasn't doing much, so responded" I'll get up now" She responded"Oh no' oh no, only when you are ready" Figuring out this was going to be one very looong discussion, proceeded to get out of bed and walker myself off to the bathroom. Now, I'm on the pot, not bothering anyone..and this chipper male voice comes round the door...in salmon fatigues carrying coffee. He says "Hi" I, sitting there say "Hi ." He is my surgeon. He proceeds to walk himself way around to the other end of the room and settle in a chair. I marshall my forces, figuring he was there to see me. Using my best manners, hopped off the pot, pushed the flush handle, caught my little finger in the handle and had a blooming blood blister in seconds! Well, not to keep Dr. waiting, I hurried out of bathroom, round the bed and stood at attention...He just looked up at me awhile, then said",' Aren't you supposed to have a walker?" "Oh" says I, and walk all the way back to the bathroom and drag the offending walker with me. He is stil being very quiet. He says"Let me see you bend your knee..so I lie back and draw my heel up to bottom,,,hit pain, pull through it to I'd had enough. He says , "lets see your other knee..same process. He sips his coffee...this is day 4,you know. He finally deigns to share.." I have women in here, who we hope to get close to 80 by end of seven days, I'm not sure, but you just bent your knees somewhere between 90-110. Why don't you got home?" So after five days, I came home! Not too shabby! I asked him why the other patients don't do what I did. He said, they hit the first sign of pain and just stop. He said,"I watched you, you hit the pain wall and just took a breathe and pushed on through," I said, "aren't you supposed to do that?" I mean, what's the whole point all all this if you're not ready and willing to assume the responsibility of pain. no brainer to me.
It's day 11 now, Sure I get my pain level up to 8-9, with all the exercises, sure they are stiff, but its all what I had before just ratcheted up a few points...and this time, each day will be pain worth it..because I'll be back to a walking woman! Yea!
Not writing other story, want to see if you get this. Then second funny story and lots of things I learned...tremendous lot from each of you...but now I feel I can give back and am eager to do so.
