Hi, just found this forum, & on reading peoples experiences am envious as my ROM after 6 months is only 95 degrees.
This is despite all the exercise, resting, icing, elevating etc. I am able to walk, done 8 miles on several occasions, however I still experience the "band of pain" & the muscle just above the knee cap regularly swells up, it can be swollen when I wake up in the morning. I am taking Coedine & paracetamol for pain relief & dyclofenac for anti-inflammation. I am due to see my OS in the next few weeks when I will discuss further. Last chat his opinion is previous scar tissue is causing the restricted movement. I had a medial cartiledge removed & a medial ligament graft 35 years ago. I would love to ride a bike but the minimum ROM required is 105 degrees. My question is can I expect further improvement in ROM & will the pain & swelling ever go?

Re: New Poster

Hello, Porto, and welcome to BoneSmart. Nice to see another Brit on here!

I'm sorry you're having such disappointment with your knee. Sounds to me like you need a manipulation. I think you should have had one ages ago, actually. whatever your previous history. I suggest you suggest it when you see him next.

Which surgeon/hospital are you going to?

Then try manipulation

Hi Josephine, thanks for taking an interest, I went on the National Health, though I do have a Private Scheme, the reason is I am local to Wrightington Hospital, who pioneered joint replacement. My consultant is Mr PJ Rae
Regards, Porto

I am very familiar with Wrightington! Visited there some years ago as a guest of Professor Wroblewski. However, they pioneered hips, not knee replacements. Knees were pioneered at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London.

Don't forget to ask them about an MUA when you see them next. They should be doing more for you, IMO.

Welcome, Portofino! So glad you joined us here on the BoneSmart forum.

I'm with Jo that a manipulation sounds like the next step to get you the ROM you need. Once you've had a discussion with your surgeon, let us know how it went.
