Hi folks,
Anyone out there having referred pain from hip down into the heel when steppin up a step or a hill? Its minor but irritating....anyone know what the source of this might be...I feel its from the bottom of my bottom and then reappears at my heel:skp:

I'm also quite stiff in the back, shoulders etc.....I suspect my body is actually trying to get used to its new way of functioning, but it is driving me nuts....I've even been taking paracetemol for it, and I'm not sleeping very well....:hissy:

Hi Kanga, I would imagine its your body getting used to things. Maybe back being more straight. Even more active. I am a knee but we have those pains as well. After not bending for years , no limping.etc. I would guess if it contiues then talk to your Dr. but give it a lil time............Hang in there a lil bit and see. Hope it all goes away for ya...

Hi Rachel

I don't get the heel pain, only shin/calf aches when stepping up and down stairs etc. I do get all sorts of irritating aches and pains in my back though, from my neck down to lower back. I just assumed that this was all my dormant muscles now starting to work again after being inactive for so long.

I don't know what your stance was like pre op, but I had been heavily leaning on my good side for over a year, therefore not using the muscles on the bad side and now I am feeling it. Also, using crutches/sticks puts extra pressure on your shoulders and back area - so maybe that might be part of it too. I wish the sticks would do something for my flabby underarms tho, lol.

Hope this helps a bit

You have sciatica, my dear! Classic symptoms. And probably some other spinal problems. I suggest you see a chiropractor who will make some adjustments which will make you feel a lot better!

I had no idea but chiropractors seem to do wonders....I had knee surgery but I guess after a while my other side hip hurt he said from favoring the otherside so much, boy he fixed it, not a problem sice....

pt said it was from the "sacro illiac joint" which I suspect is the same area as the sciatic nerve?

rachel. ice, ice , ice. my chiro recommends that. i agree with jo. make sure you have a bend in your knees to take the pressure off your lower back too.
good luck

Confusion.....when do we ice and when do we apply heat??? Pt has been using heat to warm muscles prior to stretches etc.....
Rachel

It's a debatable point. What ever works, I suppose. But if the pain is associated with swelling and/or recent surgery, then I would recommend ice as heat with make the swelling pain worse. However, if you want to make a muscle loosen up prior to exercise, heat is good.

I have a long standing 'dispute' (not really!) with my chiropractor because he insists on telling me to use ice when I have low back pain, sacro-iliac strain or similar, but I find a nice hot water bottle so much more soothing! But it's my back, sooo .......
