I was just reading back through this thread. The reason my insurance company denied out-of-house PT was because it wasn't in my contract with them. My Dr. wrote prescription for my PT.

My insurance company is United Healthcare/Golden Rule. They also would not cover amubulatory things, such as walker, wheelchair etc. Yes, I know, I need to change companies. Kind of hard doing things as we are self-employed.

Jo, maybe it is the American personality---but, did you really do the kind of workouts that I have needed to do all by yourself?
Well, evidently not - but then I'm not a professional ski instructor, merely a stay at home pensioner. I would suggest that most of hippies and kneesies are the same as me. You obviously have the need, both psychologically and professionally, to do it the way you did but were you a stay at home pensioner like the rest of us, then you'd have been content to do it the way I did. Vive la differance!!

Jo, I am sorry, but I almost fell off my chair laughing---stay at home pensioner indeed!!! Sounds like someone in an Agathy Christie novel!!

I know that you work some of the time and that you are the moderator for this formum which involves not only a lot of computer work but staying current in your profession--I know that you attend conferences and such!!!

However, it is true that I have had to work harder because of my profession. However, I know that I would not have worked hard enough without professional help. I respect the professions of pt and trainers--and, I personally, needed help to come back from the debilitation of this surgery. If I had been in the UK and had a doc say go home and do whatever you want, I would have been confused and angry.

But, I am a typical North American in that I like group activites and like help in the gym!! And, I am a professional athlete--and I would have had to hire help in the UK too. Kelly

You are dead right there, Kelly!

And for those who wonder - this is NOT me!
