I have taken a mild antidepressant , trazadone , for sleep for a few years so never had a problem after surgery with the exception of a few nights here and there. I wish everyone could get something they were comfortable with that worked so well.
I also lived in Georgia for 10 years. I have been back to California for almost 3 now. I lived in Gwinnett county outside of Atlanta. A special education teacher. I loved my job and co workers and kids. Here is Ca to make it brief they fired me last year when I was out with my first hip surgery. I still have bad dreams on the subject and don't know what to do next so I stay out of work.

I might have missed this but what sections of your knee were replaced?

I live in Ga and work for the BOE here. I had the oxford partial knee on the right and will be having the left one done as soon as possible within the safe time frame.

Can they legally fire someone for that? Seem's like you might be able to collect Social Security. If you've been out of work for a year and expect to be out longer, they have a program. I will send you the information if you need it. It wouldn't hurt to try. It might be different in different states.

Keep up the good fight and say a prayer everyday! Helps the soul!

Joyce

In this wonderful state they can legally fire someone for no reason, which is exactly what they told me they did not have to give me a reason. I basically cost them too much money by getting my vision impaired kids in resource help if they needed it. It was actually one case that my boss freaked about.

As teachers we do not pay into social security, I did not in Georgia either so there is nothing to collect. Thanks for the offer though. It is all up to prayers now.

But boy have I had the best non rushed recovery

Yes I was fired to. I Live in a right to fire state also. I was at this certain school for 7 yrs but in the school district for 9. Stinks. Joyce I am glad you sad no to baby sitting, not yet anyway. Hope you feel better soon. And yes sleep so far tonight 2 hour uggg.

wow that stinks. We need good teachers. Being fired for being out for surgery? You may want to check with someone on that, don't think that they can do that. Esp. if you got a temp leave of absents
due to medical.

KIM
Were you in the Pfl. are AISD system. Hate to hear that. They did
not give you any reason and that sucks. My son was one of the
teachers of the year in AISD. He is a great teacher and it sounds
like you and sewell were great teachers.
What did you teach? Don't think you will have a prob getting another job though a lot of the little school districts around
us are looking for teachers so you will be OK. Just get that
peskie knee fixed by your new doctor.

Thank you very much at the end I was only a teacher aast I didnt have my full degree . and was with rrisd. I didnt qualify for FMLA. Cannot I cant remember how my hrs shy, I have it downstairs. but after I used all my time I got a letter stating I needed to quit because my position needed to be filled. Well I wasnt going to quit and told them that. I wanted to work more than anything. The teacher I was working with said she would let me use a wheel chair to get me back but the admin said no. So then I got a letter stating I was terminated. But thats the school dist here. I heard that happened to alot of people at rrisd after I left. I guess it was get the younger ones in with cheaper pay!!!!!!! I dont know !

Yep heard about RR. Leander and some of the others are always
looking for subs. My grandson works as a sub almost everyday. He is a free lance sport writer so does not want to get his teachers certificate. Wish he would I am having to pay his health ins. He has ISB so I don't want him to be with ins. I know AISD is looking for a lot of teachers and asst. so you want have a prob.
Who is your new doc?

Is it raining there yet? It is here and coming your way.

Joyce, good for you for declining to be a babysitter when you are in RECOVERY....sometimes I wonder what these people are thinking of!!! They just don't understand at all. Guess that ensures there will always be a need for the BoneSmart family - who "gets" it.

It't pretty normal to be experiencing disruptions in sleep right now. Just try to nap whenever and wherever you can throughout the day and night. It gets better with time.

No babysitting Joyce. ok, ok.......yes it is thats funny, Just let me know if anything big comes I wont have to watch the weather anymore ......lol just kidding...Great I will keep that in mind about AISD. Thanks for that your to sweet.............Kim

Hey Ya'll! I have been doing much better the last day or so. Today however, something really popped in the old knee. They heard it two tables away. I let out a little (or big) yip, dependson your defifinition of little anf it bought a little tear to my eye. Can't wait til later to see how bad it's gonna hurt.

The PT'ist said that they didn't really see any reason why I shouldn"t be able to have the other knee done sooner than expected as long as
I continue on the road I'm on now. Kinda wierd to wish to put yourself through this twice, but he would only do one at a time. He said that If I were having totals he would do them both.

I know it sounds kinda wimpy knowing what some of you have gone through. My hat is off and my heart is with you.

Have to sign off now, I have a 14 yr old Yorkiwe who is not feeling well at this moment. She took a de-worming pill this morning ad it's not agreeing with her.

Later my hero's!

Joyce

Joyce, sorry to hear about your pain blip this morning. That happens to everyone while your muscles are building back up. Hope it doesn't hurt later!!! It may not, you know.

:hissy:Hi Jamie. Had a huge mis-step yesterday. I had on a pair of Berkie's and was hanging a few item on the clothes line I keep on the back patio. I took a , stepped half on and half off of the door mat on the porch and my knee flexed to the outside and them to the front and I had a few words to say:hehe:. I went to PT this morning and the knee feels just like it did when I came home for the first tme. There is swelling and lots of pain. They don't seem to think I dislodged anything but I'm scheduled tomorrow for x-ray to be on the safe side.:sigh:

How is everyone doing? I haven't been on since the day before yesterday.

Alll good thoughts,

Joyce

Oh, Joyce....so sorry to hear about your stumble. It's time to go back to the icing and pain meds until the swelling subsides. Don't feel bad....we ALL do these things to our new knees. At least you didn't fall on it! That's what many people do. Take care of yourself!!! And I agree that the xray is a good idea, if for no other reason than to give you peace of mind.

Joyce,
Sorry to hear about your mishap. I will pray that the x-ray shows that everything is OK

You can't dislodge them! If you saw what a battle we have to get them out when we do a revision, you'd know what I mean!

Shame you had that experience. Do take it easy for a few days until things settle down.

Joyce I am sorry for your fall. But you do need to take it easy. I am sure everything will be fine, but if you are worried then I am glad your are getting it checked. I would rest and ice because it is going to be sore. I sure hope it feels better soon. TAKE IT EASY !!!!!!! Let us know what the Dr says though. Kim

You're my rock! I've watched every surgery they have on TV (TLC Disc.health), heart transplant, C-section, brain surgery! The first time I say a knee replacement, I had to change the channel. They were using a BIG hammer and taking big swings. Scared me to death! That was long befoe I knew I'd be here. I've been icing alot. Hubby went and got two of the large gel pack icers. I have ben having electronic stimulation. Feels great.
I'm pretty sure that the damage is on the outside of the knee. I didn't realize it at first. There is alot of fluid on the kneecap and on the outside.

Does feel a ittle better. Needles to say ALLLLL rugs and doormats are now in a large heap in the garage.

Thanks for everything ad peace to all!
Joyce

Hey! good news on the knee. No tears but I did pull a few tendons and muscles. Thus all of the fluid and swelling. He told me to keep up the therapy starting Tues. Jamie would like to hear this, he said, ice, ice, ice! He said that he was bragging on me at a forum they had two weeks ago. Appearently, I as the perfect candidate for this particular surgery. I couldn't be happier.

Thanks to all!
Jyce
