Hello everyone, I am scheduled for my re-TKR July12th. Anyone out then been through this so soon. After 4 second opinions, it was determined that the original TKR is too big and too mobile. All this has resulted in constant pain, swelling and heat since the surgery 18 months ago. I hit a wall at 3 months and never have gotten around it. So, I'm scheduled to have it all done again and the memory of the first is all too fresh in my mind. I'm prepared for the pain and rehab, I just want to know that it will be fixed this time. But, I guess only the good Lord knows that plan. Anyway, here we go again. I'll be checking in and letting you know how things are going. Thanks for all the support this site gives us. Hedgep

Good Luck,
Sorry you are going through this. I understand completely, I have been going through this with my back.
You certainly did a good job researching it all and are making the right decision.

So you finally took the leap! Good on you. I too, hope the surgeon is a revision specialist.

From what one or two others have said, the second time around doesn't seem to be quite so bad as there's very little bone cutting involved. Hope it's so for you.

Keep us posted.

Yes, my NEW surgeon is at a major teaching hospital in the area and he specializes in replacing problem TKR's. Feel like I'm in very good hands, literally!
Good to hear about the "less bone cutting" thing. Thanks

Excellent! It will soon be done and dusted!

Hedgep,
I am glad to hear that your old TKR is going to be changed out for one that should by all means have you feeling great in no time!!!

Best of luck to you, hedgep.....you have done all the right things to guarantee success....careful research and selecting the right surgeon to get 'er done. I believe you will do just fine.

Best wishes coming your way! I hope this new knee gives you many years of happiness!:D

Hi everyone, I have great news!!! I am a week and 2 days out of surgery for what was suppose to be a Re-replacement on my right TKR. I could have done a jig when post surgery the OS came in to tell us he didn't have to take it out. I had a 'synovectomy' with a polyethylene exchange.
Apparently my synovial tissue was 10 times thicker than it should have been and was the cause of all the inflamation, heat, and pain. The plastic plug was exchanged for a thicker plug that will lessen the lateral leeway my knee can have. I still have 33 staples and a lot of muscle pain, but it my no means compares with the bone pain post-tkr.
Anyone heard of this one? I was at a teaching hospital and was apparently the talk of the OR that day. haha, glad I could be of interest.
The recovery time is still 8 weeks, but it is a much less aggressive approach to PT. I have to learn to hold myself back and be patient.
Thanks for all the helpful info and I look forward to your responses. Hedgep:

Interesting but yes, I have heard of it. It's not very common though.

Hedgep,
I am so glad to hear that it is now over and you will be able to get back to your life!!

Hedgep....Here's to a quick and successful recovery from this procedure. It does sound like an interesting surgery and I bet you ARE famous in the surgical ward. It's always good to have LESS done than more!
