I am going on 7 weeks post-op. I went to my 6-week appointment and the doc said all of my restrictions were lifted. In the office, he actually pushed my knee towards my chest as hard and far as he could to prove to me I was not in risk of dislocation. I have been walking without assistance since 4-weeks post-op.

Now, I want my range of motion back. I want to be able to bring my knee up closer to my chest to put my socks on and stuff. How can I improve this and will it get better and better? Right now, I can probably go about 100 or so degrees. I would like to go much further.

Thanks.

Keep it going, Mmoose!!!Your range will improve weekly!!! Just don't overdo it!!! ((:0)

I was wondering the exact same thing. I can almost get my foot on my other knee when sitting but I cannot get the operated knee to go horizontally so I can get the sock on. Do I just keep doing the therapy and eventually it will get there? Also, I'm sure it depends on ther person, but what is the timeline usually to resuming sex?

If you can do all all that motion.....I'd say NOW....and GENTLY!!! ((;0)

My ROM was pretty bad with my right leg. I started swimming at 4 weeks post op and my doc was very impressed with my ROM. He did not push it as far as it could go saying he did not want to dislocate my hip in his office. It got to be much better than my normal left hip.
Keep gently working at it , it does keep improving

Everything comes in time - don't rush it, take it gently but firmly.

As for sex, the same applies. anytime after around a couple of months. You need to test things out and see if any of your favourite positions causes you pain. If they do, avoid them for a while. It's not because you're at risk, particularly, only that pain is a big downer in that department, as you've already discovered no doubt!

Debb,
When I went for my 3-week checkup after the second surgery, I asked the OS about sex and he gave me a pamphlet with various positions and said it was ok. As wise Jo mentioned, take it slow, and understand that it does take some experimenting to find what will work.
As for the sock thing, I still can't get either foot up on a knee, so I put my leg up on the bed with my foot off the edge behind me and get them on that way.

Good to you , you will get there. Make sure you do your exercises and you will be fine. I still think your way early............Good luck to you...............)

Loghaula - I didn't think of putting my leg that way on the bed! That's what I do in the shower but think to do that for the sock. Everyday I try and put one leg over the other and that movement is just very slow going. Tomorrow I'll do it your way!
