Josephine, do you think a TENS machine would be of any use to relieve the feeling I get that I have to move my legs so much at nighttime? Just curious what i can do for it. I know my pain meds relieve it, but that's not the direction I want to go.

Well, I cannot say for sure, Skeet. All I would say is try it and see. You can't lose anything by trying as there are no drugs involved and it's otherwise non-invasive. Let us know if it works!

I believe restless legs can be caused by a lack of magnesium, but I don't know if that would be the case for TKR patients.

low potassium can cause leg cramps. Maybe a relation.

I've had my potassium and magnesium checked and both were fine, so I assume this is something related to the TKR somehow. Anyone else know?

Thanks, Josephine. Given this unit could be useful for many things, I think I'll go ahead and get one and give it a try. I'll let you know.

Is there anything I should be wary of, Josephine? I don't want to injure myself or do something that would impact my baby knee.

When you get a TENS unit, sit down with your physical therapist for a teaching session. It is not to be used for anything or everything. There are some safety issues your therapist can go over with you.
The therapist can show you different settings for specific problems.
Your PT can also show you "trigger points" for pain relief that coincide with the electrotherapy.

Don't just buy it and slap it on.

Don't just slap the unit on and use.... sit down with your PT and get a lesson on proper and safe use.
Trigger points also coincide with electrotherapy and your PT can help you with locating them.
Again - TENS is not a cure all for everything. It helps with bone, muscle, nerve, joint pain. If you have circulatory problems, diabetes, etc, TALK TO YOUR PT and DOCTOR FIRST regarding these issues.

Let us know how that works out for you, Doug.

I think I'm at the point where hopefully I can skip getting one..
Mine is sore today from the wallop it took when I fell on it yesterday but I'm icing it and Popped 1/2 pill.
Gat, were you dropped on your head?? Did you play football and forget the helmet?

Electrical stimulus in a hot tub... water conducts electricity... maybe it would be good for Gat... electrical shock treatments.

last time we talked about eletrical shock treatments....DW dissed my spellin' and I had to go up side his head!

Let us know how that works out for you, Doug.

Boy, you can sure tell when my pain pills kick in....my post SHOULD have been directed at Gat, not Doug. The idea of electrical current of any type and water might be quite a thrill. Boy, messed THAT joke up, didn't I! Dumb blonde trick.

Now see , you all have me paranoid. I was sittin here wondering what in the heck I had done now.
