Hi Jo,
I am having severe pain in the right buttock; it feel like a pulling that run down my leg and tighten up from time to time. With the leg lengthened is it possible the sciatic nerve is being stretched causing this pain? I am wearing a pain patch, taken two aleves, 2 cybmbalta and I am still in pain. I can't bend to my right side without pain... I can't walk a half block. Laying on my back is painful. I am 21 months post op of a TRHA with a 3/4 leg length discrepancy.

Note: I do see a Chriropractor who say the problem is in my hip affecting my upper back as well. I see her on a bi-weekly basis. My plan is to have an MRI of my back compairing with the MRI taken in 2008, with hope of revision providing there is no change in the MRI; if it is, I am not sure what course of action I will take. I will be seen by my OS this coming Thursday. Any light you can shed on this issue is appreciated.

Thanks/:sigh:

MsSplenda, I modified the title of your post to direct your question to Jo and make sure she sees it when she checks in.

I do think it's possible that your pain is coming from a tightness in the IT band, which would be something your therapist could work on. If you are not seeing a therapist, maybe your regular physician or your OS could order some sessions for you.

In the meantime, here are some stretches you can do.

Well, it could be ITB or it could be the sciatic nerve playing up. I would need to know exactly where the pain is situated first.

This is the sciatic nerve path

and this is the ITB path

See the path is quite different. So if your pain is deep in the buttock it's probably the sciatic nerve and if your chiropractor can't deal with it, I would suggest that an MRI is a good idea. However, if the pain is more at the side, then it's more likely the ITB which can be sorted with stretches, deep massage and pain meds.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks Jo!
The pain is not all the way down the leg, it feels like needles on the side of my right foot and needles in my right buttock with a constant dull pain; there is some thigh pain from time to time. As the day progresses I am unable to walk long distances. I have had three injection in the L5-S1 and one injection in the groin and the buttock where the pain is located. The injections haven't lasted longer than two weeks. Is it possible the scatic nerve is being stretched due to the difference in the leg length? I will see my OS on Thursday. This is so annoying and frustrating. As much as I dislike that cane, I am using it once again. I hope no one else have to go deal with anything like this.
