Is it normal to feel like something is catching in the knee after you have an anthroscopy? I know that I am almost bone on bone on that knee but I thought after my surgery the pain would ease up a bit. Actually it is worse now. It only happens when I walk and bend my knee. I am trying really hard to walk normally but I find that if I keep my leg from bending it doesn't hurt. I just hate that feeling of sharp pain everytime I walk. My follow up appointment is March 2nd.

Re: Question after Anthroscopy

I don't know if its normal or not, but I had a scope many years ago with that kind of result. It gradually went away as the swelling went down. I'm glad you have a doc appointment soon--let us know the results?

That doesn't sound very comfortable, Jenniferne! Glad you have a doctor's appointment! Keep posting! :)

Re: Question after Anthroscopy

Hi Jennifer,

It really could be a lot of different things going on and not necessarily bad things. May just take a little more healing time for things to get settled in there.

Then again....I've had three arthroscopies in a year and each time it got worse. The first two were with a surgeon who was not so terrific. And the third time there were so many loose bodies grinding around that the articular cartilage was gone. Grade four arthritis, medial femoral epicondyle- bone on bone. It constantly catches and PAIN!
But that doesn't mean the same for you. Some knees still "catch" after arthroscopy and things are still healing as scheduled. Bet you can't wait til next week and your OS can show you pics and give you the definitive on what he saw and his expectations.

Best wishes to you. Nancy

Re: Question after Anthroscopy

I am going for a follow up on my knee scope this morning ( if I don't loose track of time here)
I did have the bone on bone in the kneecap area with microfracture surgery to try to regrow cartilage. So I had my knee in a brace for 2 months with no weightbearing unless my leg was totally straight.
It has been 10 weeks and I still have a lot of catching, discomfort etc. But of course our surgeries were totally different.

Sorry as I always make short stories long. The very next day I had questions and called my doc and asked exactly what he had done.
So, if I were you I would not hesitate to call and ask if it is all to be expected. Unless of course you are very patient and can wait a week

Then I hope he works wonders for you! :)

Jennifer, I corrected the spelling in your title again!

And yes, having an arthroscopy is painful, could be due to the joint being inflated with saline or the trimming of rough edges. It will pass.
