All is going well in post surgery land. It has been 9 weeks. My therapy is over.
My question is whether anyone else had swelling still at this point.
My knee is not that swollen, but my calf & ankle are pretty bad.
I looked in the mirror and my left leg is sooo much bigger than my right. Summer is coming and I don't see how I will ever wear a skirt again!
I also have a lot of pain in my hip, but that's another story.

Faith I'm at 14.5 weeks and yes there is still swelling. Especially when I push the leg hard during the day. I need to stop walking around the house barefooted..But this IS Florida.
My TKR knee is bigger than the other. I don't know if the new joint is just bigger, has a little different shape or what.
I don't think I'll be wearing a skirt this summer either..........................made you think didn't I!!

Now that I would have paid to see! You and your monkey all decked out in your summer finest!
Thanks for the laugh!
Faith

Too funny. If my procedure is in mid-June, I'm hoping to make use of my community pool (usually empty) during August for some extra PT. If my knees are too gross, I guess I'll wear one of those long "swim skirts" they used to wear at the turn of the century. I don't want to scare my neighbors away! Or, I could move to Florida where I can find an open pool year round!

Ladies, Just to give you a little advise...We don't look at your knees!!! I've never been with a group of men (at any age) and heard one say,"hey, check out those knees". just sayin'.

You guys are just too funny. Part of why we love you so much!

Thanks..But I did mean it. Plus, if someone just looks at a knee scar and doesn't even consider what's inside the person. I just figure they arent worth a d@#$ anyway so who cares what they think!!!

Amen brother couldn't agree with you more!!!
Of course this comes from the woman that wears her hair shorter than most men.
I'm from the if you don't like it don't look.

And this applies to other things besides scarred knees I hope.

Doug I guess you're right - I've never had any guy stare at my knees while I'm talking...LOL.

Hey Doug, I do believe you mean that usually, but I do seem to remember on one post long, long ago, you were at the mall and were looking at ladies knees, being envious of their knees!!! LOL

Hi Faith, I too still have swelling, but mainly in my knee, it is big time stiff constantly. I am 16 weeks Wednesday. Yesterday, after a busy weekend, I was suffering big time with pain in my whole leg where it had swollen so much, thigh to ankle. Just over did it though. I am better today and went to physio and did well there.

I guess you and me are just slower to recover than others.

MOst of my friends ask to see the scar and then ooh and aah at how big it is. They are duly impressed. My left knee is slightly larger than the right, but it is entirely due to the swelling. My new knee is small and the same size and shape as the old one. When I wake up in the morning, both my knees are almost exactly the same size. After a long day, there is swelling.

My husband doesn't mind the scar or the swelling and I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

I continually asked my husband if he would still like me when I had big scars on my knees. He assured me he would, then after the surgery, he left. KIDDING! He's still here. I just wanted to sound like a country western song.

Nurse, I do have to admit that when I see anyone limping I look and see if I see TKR scar. If I can't see a scar then I wonder if eventually they have one.

Doug, being in Florida, you must see more knees all year than we do. People in shorts all winter?

Skeeter, I'm with you, sista! I could give a rats.....uh.....patooty what ANYBODY thinks about my scar!! Let'em go through what we did to GET that scar! As ugly as mine is, it's my crowning glory.

It's MINE!!!

Jenn, other than on Sundays, I might wear long pants 8-10 days at the most during the year.

Patti,Skeet,
If I could put highlighter on my knee to show it off I think I would...In fact, I might just have to shave down the middle of it so it's more visible. Dare someone to say something about it.
(now if this doesn't get a comment, nothing will).
