I have been eating so much more meat than I usually do these past weeks. Also, I drink a ton of those Naked Juice Protein smoothees (30 g of protein).

Now, I am eating lots of endamae (soy beans) and lot sof humus (garbanzo beans) and cheese. I think it is helping my stamina---or else, it is getting better since I am now 7 weeks out.

Do the rest of you finds way to add protein to your diet? Normally I don't eat much meat---and I hate chicken with a passion. I eat turkey on thanksgiving usually--but last week I bought a cooked turkey breast and really ate a lot of it!!!

I'm on the verge of vegetarianism so I'm of no help with this one. I have, however, been eating eggs quite a bit since the surgery. I figure the extra protein must be good for the muscles if nothing else.

It's hard to know what's helping your stamina, but being 7 weeks out helps. I think that's about the point where I really started to feel almost good working out.

Prior to this surgery, I was essentially a vebetarian myself. I ate meat maybe once or twice a month. But now, I am definitely attracked to it. My husband was so surprised when I walked in with a turkey breast!! I never eat turkey except at thanksgiving.

Kelly I basically llive as a vegetarian, but wondered about needing more protein when I had my first surgery. But I did not do anything about it.
Well after my hip replacement I was craving a hamburger. I finally gave in and ate nothing but meat one whole weekend. Then the craving was over.
Well then I had the surgery that tried to kill me the thoracic fusion. When i was feeling a little human again after a few weeks back came the meat craving. It lasted for weeks, then stopped. So lots of meat.
I do try to listen to my body it does know what is going on. Right now it is peanut butter cups!!!!:D:D

Gang,
If you want to put protein back in your diet, then eat tuna fish. Please do not worry about mercury, you could get hit by a Mack truck tomorrow. Put eggs and mayonnaise with it and start your work out. I promise it is te best choice for bodybuilding.

Hi Kelly,
Whey protein is the ultimate source of protein! It's the highest quality of protein available. Whey protein is a rich source of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), containing the highest known levels of any natural food source.
I drank whey for years playing sports, great source ,no side effects.
I have a question ?That,Naked Juice Protein ,,does that do what I think it does??:hehe:

Yes, I do think that Naked Juice has a great visual for me!!! It is primarily whey protein---with coconut and pineapple thrown in---I drink one almost every day so far. Now that I am feeling better thought, maybe I will taper off--but, maybe not too until my muscles are really and truly back. My quad fires in pt, but it is pretty sick looking!!!

I have not thought of tuna though---I like it with mustard, balsamic vinegar and relish!!!

That is soooooo strange. Craving meat if you were vegetarian. The reason why I say this, is I eat meat every day ( I tend to become anemic). But after the surgery I could not even stand the smell of beef let alone
eat it. It was over a month before I could eat beef. I ate some chicken and fish but very little. Mostly vegies.

I know several folks that were meat eaters that could not eat meat for a while after the surgery.

Kelly,
This is some suff I found on the web about whey protein. It is not good for everyone and they need to know.

While whey protein is a natural food substance, it is not 100 percent risk free. There are some minor whey protein side effects you should be aware of:
Allergic Reaction
Whey protein is derived from milk. In addition, some unrefined forms of whey protein contain higher levels of lactose. Consequently, the product may cause negative reactions in people who are allergic to dairy products and those who suffer from lactose intolerance. If you experience any of the following symptoms after consuming whey protein, contact your doctor immediately:
Rash or hives
Itching
Swelling of the lips, mouth, or throat
Wheezing or difficulty breathing
Excessive coughing
Diarrhea or blood in the stool (especially in infants)
Vomiting
Excessive Consumption
In studying whey protein side effects, doctors have found that some individuals, who consume excessive amounts of the substance, may experience the following symptoms:
Increased stool frequency
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Headaches
Thirst
Bloating
Cramps
Other Side Effects
Kidney Problems: If whey protein is taken over the long-term there is a risk of developing kidney disorders, including kidney stones. However, it is important to note that there isn’t substantiated research that links excessive, long-term whey protein consumption with deteriorating kidney function. Regardless, many experts still insist that there is a risk, and caution individuals to consume whey protein in moderation.
Liver Problems: In some cases whey protein has been found to cause liver damage related to ketosis. Ketosis is characterized by elevated levels of ketones in the blood and is considered very dangerous since it causes stress on the liver that might lead to liver damage.

So has they say---User be ware!!!!!!!!

Or to put it another way "caveat emptor"!
