Hello Everyone,

I posted yesterday and have been thinking about my situation ever since finding this board. I am having my left hip done on a Monday, then my left knee done that Thursday. Both joints are in very rough shape, I cannot make it through a normal day anymore without substantial pain.

Does anyone have any experience with having same-side hip and knee replacement surgery? My doc said he does a few of these a year and it's not a problem, but I'm starting to get concerned about PT and such.

The reason I'm doing it like this is because I am only 30 years old, with two small kids and I want to just get everything done in one swoop.

Thanks!

Hi Bionic... Welcome to the forum. Will the TKR'd knee be able to do the extra work supporting the healing replaced hip? I'm sure there is someonne who has had both/same side done, just wonder about so close, days. Maybe because you are young and if the doc has done it before... Hope it goes well. It's awful when we hurt so much... How old are your kids?

Sounds like an excellent plan! I know the usual parameters for repeat surgery are either before 10 days or after 6 weeks. So you should do just fine having had a couple of days to start getting used to your new hip before you get your knee done. Should work out just fine!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. My kids are 3 1/2 and 8 months, so I'm really looking forward to being pain free and ready to play with them again. My first hip replacement in 2000 went very well, and I'm hoping for similar experiences this time around!

Best of Luck with your surgeries!
I had a rtkr in July and on 12/18 I had a hip scope with 3 hours of bone grinding on the same side (right). Had I known I had hip issues I would have asked them to do them at the same time. We didnt discover the hip issues until after the tkr. I would have been done with all this PT and probably would be back to 100%. Ughh --- Get this done and get it over with! Go for it and get your life back! Hopefully I will have mine back in a few more weeks!

Best Wishes Bionic for a very good result.

Time is getting close. I'm having a lot of trouble with pain management, and frankly getting tired of doctors making me feel like a drug addict when i ask for pain help. Right now I'm taking Tramadol, which helps, but doesn't get me through the day.

I'll update my blog with some new pre-op posts. I was surprised to see that I've already gotten over 5,000 hits!!!

I'll keep everyone updated.

I'm SO glad I found this place ;)
