I had a total knee replacement 9 weeks ago (and to those who read all the scare things about our totally free Health system in Canada, it's wonderful! Not a penny to pay- choice of surgeon-and date-forget the rubbish you read) back to my knee replacement. I'm 79 and had it done with lots of fear and qualms, spent 6 days in hospital and had a nurse come round to my house each day to change the dressings for the 1st few weeks, a pysio also come a couple of times a week and then when she stopped coming continued at the local hospital for a couple of weeks more until they told me not to bother coming anymore because my recovery was well advanced and just to keep doing the exercises at home- I now drive- walk much further than before (without a cane), hardly any pain-really! I cut down on the pain killers rapidly- perhaps a little too soon and now am back on half an "oxcy" (narcotic) before I go to bed- It's a drag doing all the exercises they say but I do quite a bit and it helps like mad and gets easier each week. It's a heck of an operation and takes some getting over and there is pain but you can control it with the pain killlers they give you and make it disappear pretty quickly- as people say- don't be brave use them! Don't worry-it's 9 weeks now and I'm doing great- went to the theater today and sat through 2 hours without any problems and drove there myself bobdut:thmb:

Well done Bob. I'm a few weeks ahead of you, my surgeon said it would be 3 months before I began to feel normal and doing normal things again and he was right! I also found our NHS excellent for surgery - a few things could have been better but that seems to be the case even if you pay.

Welcome to BoneSmart, Bob. And you're right in there with a great report and encouragement for others! You're an inspiration to be sure.

Welcome Bob. I had my second TKR nine weeks ago tomorrow so am at the same stage time-wise as you are. I also am doing the same sorts of things as you, driving for miles, walking lots without canes, able to sit comfortably for at least a couple of hours etc.

It's a great feeling being able to do so many things that I've not been able to do for ages. Do keep us informed as to your progress, and well done you!

Welcome to BoneSmart, Bob! How fantastic that you are doing so well. Your story will be an inspiration to others who worry that they might not be able to handle the surgery and recovery. So glad you posted.
