i saw my family doc this week for a checkup and to tellhim about my upcoming June surgery for my left hip. He suggested I could go ahead and have a cardiolite stress test just to see if my heart is ok. any thoughts on doing it now? or should I just wait until closer to June nad let my OS handle it?

The OS usually sends you to your primary doctor for the pre-op tests. Did you have an EKG first? Or have you had any heart problems in the past? I had to go for a stress test only because I failed the EKG with a resting heart rate of only 55. I wrote all about the stress test on another thread. I would never do it again with the injection of the heart-racing drug because you have no control. At least on the treadmill you have more control. Are you able to run on a treadmill instead of the injection? Please read my "stress test" thread.

Usually, pre-op test results need to be no more than 28 days old (sometimes less) to be acceptable. Of course, if your GP suspects other issues with your heart, you should follow his recommendations. At any rate, I'd question him further on why he suggested this test.

my family doc was trying to help me in eliminating any problems prior to surgery. He didnt suspect anything, but said the cardiolite was a better test, but i could do treadmill if i chose to. I read hopalong's thread about the test and I am reluctant to do the cardiolite test first, since i have not had any other tests. think i will wait til May! thanks!
It was nice of your GP to try and help get some of the pre-surgery testing out of the way. But if it was me, I think I'd rather the tests were done closer to the time of surgery just to be sure things were fine right then. If you decide to get something done early, be sure to coordinate with your surgeon to be sure it's okay.....don't want to have to do them TWICE!!!
