Is it normal to have a popping or snapping sound in the knee about 80% of the time you are walking? I was told by my OS that it would go away by some type of tissue growth. Has anyone else experienced this and does it go away. How long does it take? I am 8 weeks out from my TKR.

I'm just over 9 weeks and I can get a clicking in the knee is that what you mean, it only happens when I walk but not all the time and generally when I stand after sitting for a while, or after I get out of the car. I still have it so can't comment when it goes away, if it does?????? People have commented in a few threads on the forum about various noises in new joints.

Chris :)

But for me the clicking and popping lessened over time. I'm one year post op.

We have a special forum for joint noises Noise Related to Total Hip Replacement with an excellent video by one of the foremost experts in research on this. Though he speaks principally of hips, it applies to knees as well. Do watch it.

I've had a double clunking noise and sensation with every step in my LTKR since I had it done last May. My OS says it's normal as long as it doesn't outright hurt (it's an odd sensation, not painful per se) and that it may or may not go away. I use an MP3 player for any long walks I take and don't notice it as much. I looked at the new "noise" page but it mainly pertains to hips and not the specifics of knee clunks (which are quite common).

Bruce, you should be able to just click on the red type in the post - it's a link directly to the videos.

Burice...
I am 10.5 weeks out from Bilateral, and am experiencing the same sensation.
4 weeks ago, PT says to stretch quad ligament...no help, still clicks.
(mostly on stairs-up/down, stationary bike, etc)
Today, Doc says "hey, you have 125/127 ROM", don't worry about it.
So, got a pair of Corduroy pants, harmonica, and turned off the MP3.
I guess it just takes getting used to?
Cheers,
Mike

Mike...what a fun attitude!!!

I am now four month bTKR. My OS's PA said that it was normal. When my left knee started, I was happy b/c that meant that the swelling was decreasin. The PA said that it is a good thing. It took a little longer for the right knee b/c it was worse and he removed quite a bit of inflamed tissue. My cartilage was gond due to rhematoid arthritis.
