My OS tells me that he does not think it is wise to travel
by air, because of possible blood clotting. Something about
compression. Has anyone traveled this soon after TKR and
been ok?

Welcome to BoneSmart, PhillipsPal. Exactly when was your surgery?

Duhhhh....3 months....like your title says!!! Sorry....

Anytime you have a long period where you sit in one place there is a possibility of developing a blood clot. When does your surgeon think it would be safe?

Some on the forum have flown early in recovery with no problem. You just have to be very careful. Move around. Wear TEDS hose. That type of thing.

Are you trying to go on a vacation? And how is your recovery going?

My recovery is going very well. Still just a little stiffness at the knee cap. But only pain I have is on the back, very little. Actually
I was to fly out next week and I reported to my OS 3 weeks ago. He
advised me to cancel and wait till at least 4 months PO. I will call him and ask him about the hose, otherwise Monday I will be cancelling the trip. My surgery was March 16, 2009.

Airlines are very nice when it comes to something like this. I have an aunt (works on airline) that says they let people with any type of surgery like this , walk around, so they dont have to sit all the time....Sure hope you dont have to cancel your trip....................................Good Luck

Strikes me he's being a bit of a pedant over 4 weeks!
