As previously posted...I am allergic to exercise because it causes me break out.....................in SWEAT!!!:hissy:
.
I have never been involved in sports except for volleyball and tennis. So having an active lifestyle has never been my forte'. RTKR has brought be to place where I have never been before...routine and daily exercise. I have completed 12 weeks of PT and I am ready to continue making steps forward to a more active lifestyle. I am limited by a rotten Left knee which is scheduled for replacement sometime around the first of the year. I am 3 1/2 months post surgery

My daily regime is....stepping up on a stair thirty times, stretches of legs and knees using therabands, full, side, partial leg lifts, hamstring strethes, pelvic tilts, crunches, thigh squeezes, toe raises, and marching. I am using my cane (mostly for security and for my Left knee). I am not walking any distance other than than what I need to do at work.

I wanted to start this thread to see what others are doing to maintain (just like maintaining your car) their knees. Do you do home exercises? If so what? Do you go to gym? How did you choose? Do use a personal trainer? If so how did you choose? How can you know a trainer or gym person is not going to direct you to do something that will hurt your knee? What about water exercises(I will not do this because I would not be caught dead in a swimsuit)? How do you find a good class? How do you get in and out of the pool if you are still using crutches or a cane? What about walking? How much did you do at the beginning? How did you increase your distance? What have been your most memorable accomplishments?

Thought this this might be a thread where we could all learn something new or share some encouragement

Hummm, I can answer the pool thing. I get up on the third step and my husband pushes my bottom and in the pool I go. Pool steps are harder then just walking up regular steps. I really do the same exercises that I have always done. I do alot of lunges they always helped with my ROM. I also have ankle weights to try to strengthen my calf muscles. The surgery one is still small but getting better. You can see it finally coming back. and my thighs. I do ride my bike alot though. It loosens everything up. Good thread it will be good to see what others do. I bet I will be tired just reading what others do. Will be really good for ideas as well. Thanks for the thread Barb..

Power walk......AWAY from the fridge! Better maks that the WHOLE kitchen!!!!:hissy:

Judles lol...I was waiting for something like that...lol
Honestly the same as after surgery that list, lunges and my bike....I have very good ROM....Even with swelling its good. Pats is coming along good , Im sure she will post.
Barb really it sounds like your doing pretty good excercises....

Now Judles we must have energy so we need to power walk into the kitchen!

I did lots of stretches, bike and had lots of pt. I did the water pt
and now I am doing the massage pt and balancing etc.

Lots of rocking back and forth to get the rom in the knee
