Hi everyone
Just thought I would update you on my long awaited progress, for those not aware I had a patella replacement on March 13th. All went well with the operation but recovery has been slow. My muscles were not 'engaging' and I had no bend in the knee. Well good news at last, my muscles have just begun 'engaging ' therefore I can now lift the leg slightly and following hydrotherapy and physiotherapy I now have a 60 - 65 degree bend. I tried driving for the first time last week, I must put the fear of God into any driver watching me, I really struggle to get in and out of the car even with the seat pushed back and then I just drive off no problem, they must want to get off the road pretty damn quick!!! I have gone back to my main job on a phased return, they have been very supportive and allow me to work 3 days, I cannot go back to my secondary job as it is working with physically disabled children and as it is very physical I would not be able to safely carry out my duties. I have seen my consultant 3 times since the operation and the last time he was a much happier man, I go back in 4 weeks.
I still read the forum a few times a week and it's wonderful to hear everyones experiences, although very sad when things are not going quite to plan. The amount of information and 'tips' I have been able to gain from the forum is invaluable so again thank you to all, especially the moderators who are a mine of useful, straight talking, plain English information. I will let yu all know when I am running the marathon!!!!! but until then keep posting, take care and God bless.
