Is there any way to make the threads which I have open to automatically upload the new posts? I always have to click on reload current page (I use Firefox, could use IE if forced) to pick up posts. If I'm on for quite a while, like in the social rooms, it gets annoying to keep hitting refresh over and over to see if anyone posted something new.

Thanks, Pat

Pat,
Have you tried clicking on Quick Links? It is on the red display bar underneath Hip replacements and Social Room. If you click on that, it will show you the posts from today and the past couple of days that have been open..... Once you view it it will no longer appear in boldface. This is how I view the forum and find the newest posts!
Hope this helps!

Thanks, Crystal. You are right that using QUICK LINKS is an excellent way to view posts you are interested in from the last 24 hours or so. It won't bring up older ones if you happen to be reading one of those and it has no new posts.

Updates to a thread that appear since you read it last are also available under NEW POSTS. NEW POSTS show all entries except those you make.

Pat, if you are talking about wanting to have new posts appear as you are reading a page, I'm not sure that is possible. That is the function of the REFRESH button. Or you can switch off the page and then back again.

I have seen some web sites (like stock market pages) that have an automatic refresh capability, which is what I think you are asking about.....a box you could check to have the pages automatically refresh for you as you're reading.

That may be possible, but it would have to be "global" meaning it would automatically refresh all pages you read. I'm betting you would find that irritating after a while to be reading along and suddenly the page would refresh to search for new posts.

What do you think? And am I describing what you are asking about correctly?

Yes, Jamie, that's what I mean. Say, I'm sitting in the Run Amok thread. I'd like new posts to appear. As it is, I have to hit reload, then a new one or two might appear. Then I hit it and nothing, then I hit it and there might be one but it was posted several minutes ago since I got tired of hitting refresh.

Yahoo and Eudora mail ad new emails as you're reading an old one. It doesn't automatically open, till you scroll down and click on it though. Geez, maybe what I'm asking is impossible. The other forums I'm on are email based, so I don't know.

Pat

Well, I've posted your request for a staff discussion with Jo (outside the regular forum view), so we'll see what is decided. I'm just glad I understand properly what you are asking for....thanks!

I'm discussing this in the staff forums currently :)

either myself or the Bonesmart staff will notify you here of the result :)

I've discussed this with Richard, Pat, and the base line is that it would slow down the server a lot and could even overload it to the point where crashes might be possible. In short, I'd really rather not run that risk!

Noooo, we don't want slowing or crashes!!! Thank you for looking into it!
This place is amazing and I'm really enjoying it.

No one ever did tell me if those buttons to the right of our names
have always been there or are they new. They're really neat....save
steps.

Have a great day!

Pat

Those buttons are not new, Pat. But glad you like them. It does help to know who is online at any given time.

Now we have to get Bonesmart compatible with our mobile phones! It USED to work.....not so anymore! Hope we can get things up and running again, Richard!!!:bow::wink:

Please - what buttons are you referring to? I can't figure!

And when did the mobile phone compatability cease? I never knew it was compatible - rather, tbh, I never even thought about it. My mobile runs on steam!

Pat is referring to the radio button that is just to the right of everyone's name that changes color to signify when a person is online with BoneSmart.

Judi will have to tell you the exact date that her Blackberry quit functioning on BoneSmart. She has been using it prior to that successfully for probably a year. It happened suddenly, though, Jo....about the time you were making some forum changes when you first got the "power." I don't know if that's a coincidence or if it happened as a result of a change related to the NEW POST function. It was at the same time when things changed with that feature.

Oh - buttons to me are things you click to do things! No wonder I couldn't fathom it!

Yeah, the little blue (if the person is offline) or green button to the right of the person's name. If you click on it, it shows profile or you can send a message, etc. I just can't believe I never noticed them before....for months!

Pat

Actually, that's not a feature of the on/offline button becasue it's usually inactive. The menu you are getting is the link on the User profile which seems to have 'bled' alongside to the button for some reason. That just might change when Richard gets to work but you will still be able to access that menu from the Username.

It's really cool for it to do all that. Makes it very easy.

Pat

The mobile connection is awful! First the writing is beyond tiny! You have to constantly enlarge and it's mini sized even typing while posting! NEVER, EVER had this problem and for someone who posts often, it's really offputting!!!! Just want to know what happened! The change seems to have happened overnight!!! (Around Oct, 1st!!)

Read the posts from me and Rich in the other thread here - we've explained why it happened and that we have plans to put things right but he's still waiting for his access code from the server. Shouldn't be too much longer. Maybe Friday.

Please be patient. This was essential work as Rich found things that had the potential to make the forum crash had they not been corrected but that caused these other probs which he needs to code to access where he can correct them! Bear with us while we get it fixed. Just be glad he found all this before something disastrous happened.

As a Way to increase the size you See when typing (your posts) i have installed a mod.

You can now set your Default Post Colour ,size and font from your usercp

Go to Edit Options and Scroll to bottom,

You can of course still change colour in posts if you wish

As Jo said Until i can get my hands on the access to the FTP and Server my hands are tied as to what i can do here. I can see issues but until i have those login's etc i can't work on it.

A much improved Mobile skin however is on my list aswell as ability to view Larger font sizes (for reading posts etc) (you can click to magnify the size you see as default)

I can however give you my word of honour, as soon as i'm able (get the access needed) i'll fix every glitch/bug on Bonesmart.
