Hello everyone. I am due to have a THR on my left hip on the 24th Feb but I am worried that I am suffering severe pain in my right heel with plantar fasciitis. Will the surgeon postpone my op? I am doing all I can to treat my heel.

:hi: and :welome: @Cazzagirl

I have had mild cases of plantar fasciitis and I sure do Sympathize:sad:
Bad Gait due to bad hip can certainly contribute to that so this would indeed be a frustrating situation.
I don't think the plantar fasciitis itself would cause a cancellation but it certainly would be an added recovery concern maybe...
Have you let your surgeons office know?

I am going through my first ever bout of Plantar Fasciitis (left foot) that began in December. I have improved quite a bit, but still have heel pain walking without orthodontic shoes or inserts made specifically for PF.

I had THR on left hip Aug. 1, 2022.

My first month of PF altered my gait and at times I got some hip area pain; I was also walking far less as resting with PF is necessary for healing. Too much rest I find is bad for my THR. These maladies and their treatment and recovery seem to be at odds with each other.

As it happened, I had my THR after back to back pneumonia and moderate Covid. While I did well enough in my initial THR recovery, in hindsight I would have been stronger had I delayed the surgery for a month.

Hi Cazzagirl,
Welcome to BoneSmart! I find it doubtful your surgery will be canceled due to PF. Please communicate with your surgeon's office on this for advice and possibly some helpful ideas to work toward easing the pain. I am sorry you have to deal with this as you are awaiting your THR. Pre-op anxiety can be stressful enough on its own. I will leave a few pre-op articles below and hope you'll stay in touch and let us know what you hear. Wishing you comfort!

One thing I noticed after my first THR was that the down time in recovery gave a lot of parts of my body a chance to heal. Unfortunately the part of the recovery I really did a lot of afterwards was walking and from that I developed Planltar Fasciitis. I don't think it would cause a postponement of your surgery. You will have to choose your post-op footwear now to be sure you have new comfortable shoes for recovery.
I've been battling he Plantar Fasciitis for some time now and even went through the shots in the heel and wearing a brace on my foot. I was trying anything and everything to get relief. I tried different insoles for my shoes and some made it worse until I tried a pair of Power Step brand from Amazon. The one thing that made me try them was their site showed a real simple way to judge your arch type. Everyone's results might be different and I can't say it's the cure but I have finally gotten relief with these insoles.

Hope your surgery went well & hope your foot is better, too. Plantar fasciitis is no joke.
