PKR PKR Recovery & Rehab

Happy One Month Anniversary!
I hope your return to work is going well. Have a wonderful weekend!
@sk44tyler
Thank you! Everything has been going great. My extension and flexion are coming along (-2 and 130) and my swelling is minimal. Just some stiffness.
I’ve been walking quite a bit and doing PT 3 times a week. The best thing is the pain of old is finally gone! It’s a strange feeling when suddenly the pain you’ve had for so many years is just gone one day.

So glad all going well.
It is always a bit of a worry whether you made the right decisions- but great news your old pain is gone!

Impressive...isn't it?! I remember the first time I got out of my vehicle, once I was post op and driving again, and didn't have to lift my leg, slowly lowering it until my foot touched the ground. It was surprising and so wonderful I wanted to do it again to make certain it was real! No pain! :happydance:
Happy Monday...enjoy the week!

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for documenting your journey. I too have osteochondritis dissecans (both knees) with an extensive surgical history thus far, and have been given the option of a high tibial wedge osteotomy/OATs combo, or a partial replacement. I've done a ton of research and read articles and have decided to go the HTO/OATS route versus partial replacement, despite wanting the ease of the PKR. Biggest factor being my age (32). But reading both of your threads has been really helpful. I hope you're recovery continues to go well!

@smpatrick16 Hey! Welcome to the forum. I’m glad my story and info could help you!
Choosing between HTO w/ OATS or a PKR is a tough choice. Sounds like you’ve researched it and put a lot of thought into it. I will say that if I was in my early 30s I would’ve been much more inclined to go the HTO route. At my age though, with my history of nothing working for me, I just wanted to be done with it… I wanted something that I knew would work. So far, I’m very happy with the results. I was shooting hoops with my son this weekend with no pain (nothing crazy - no running). Anyways, best of luck to you! When are you having your surgery? Keep us posted.

Thanks @Layla! I was just saying to my wife that I can’t believe it’s been 2 months already.
So I’m done with PT and have started back with weight training and quite a bit of walking. I’m feeling absolutely fantastic! No complaints whatsoever. This last weekend I went on a cub scouts camping trip with my son and walked 8.5 miles with no issues. I’m not even icing it anymore because I honestly don’t need to.
Anyways - thanks to you and everyone else for all the support and guidance on this journey.

Hello and Happy Three Month Anniversary! Hopefully the stellar recovery continues.
Wishing you a holiday season filled with love as you create memories to cherish through the years!
Many blessings to you and yours! :merry-xmas-smiley-emoticon:

Thanks Layla! Sorry for the late response. I was busy with the holidays and hadn’t logged on here in a while. Hope your Holidays were great!
Thanks again - my recovery is still progressing great. I have no complaints at this point!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting your experience. I am 39 and may need a medial PKR in the near future, though hopefully not for a few years. Glad to hear yours went well.

Hey @Upstate12 - no problem! Glad my experience could help you. I know for me, finding this site/forum was extremely helpful/useful. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here, along with a ton of different experiences to share. I know when deciding to have a major surgery (like a PKR/TKR), you want to hear first hand from people that have gone through it. Especially when you’re on the younger side and usually don’t hear a lot of experiences shared from relatively younger people.
Anyways - best of luck going forward. As technology advances, you may have even better options in the near future.

Great update. I think it is so helpful for you to keep posting. It really helps to see how well this surgery can go and how much you can do now.
The 8 mile hike and playing hoops with your son are a brilliant result and so encouraging for other younger folk.
