Jenn, your knees look so good for this point in your recovery. I'm like everyone else and think it would be SUCH an undertaking to do both at once. I'm wimpy with ONE. But I guess it's all a factor of the pain and if both hurt like crazy, I'm sure I'd go for it to get relief. So glad you posted a bilat photo! And with your loving monkey too....

Jen,
You put me to shame with all my whining about my little PKR. I truly admire you and your bravery for having them both done at once. I know I am not as strong as you are. I pray for continued health and healing for you.

Patti- I've never been on a cruise. We fly into Cancun and travel by bus to Playa del Carmen. We used to backpack farther south to Tulum, Belize, and Guatemala, but I am not much for backpacking these past couple of years so we have just been staying at resorts in Cancun, Playa, and Cozumel.

Someone on here-- Cathy? is a travel agent and would be way more help on cruises than me. I only know "book larnin' " about cruises--- enough to teach a unit in my hospitality classes. I think I need to take a sabbatical and go on a cruise! For professional development purposes, of course!

ooh.... can I? I could be an undercover saboteur for you-know-who! We have *months* to plan our strategy---- I am sure we can get very creative. The possibilities are endless.

I am watching a Star Wars movie right now. Yoda always reminds me of my grandmother. LOL! She wasn't green, and her ears weren't pointed, but some of the mannerisms were so similar. She was quite an old gal... could work many a younger man into the ground.

Patti, I've been on three cruises and they were all fun. Which cruise line is it?

Usually you can get a list of the shore excursions before you go from the cruise line web site. Once you have that, I'd pick out a few things that really interest you to do in your ports of call. It depends on your interests - outdoor activities, cultural things, shopping. You should find a few to do. They all cost something, so you have to watch how that adds up. Pick the ones you want BEFORE you go. Once you get on the ship, immediately go sign up for them because the good ones tend to get full fast. While you're signing up, everyone else will be trying to figure out what they want to do.

Another biggie is to pack shorts and warm weather outfits in your carryon. It takes a while for your luggage to get delivered to your room and that way you can change into vacation clothes immediately when you get to your room while everyone else is still in their winter duds.....they'll think you're sooooo clever!

In addition, you'll be paying extra for all those nifty umbrella drinks you say yes to around the pool and other places onboard ship. Watch the cost of drinks in the "souvenir" glasses - very expensive! You are not allowed to bring any booze on board and they won't let you take bottles you buy at the duty free liquor store back to your room. Dirty dogs....they make sooooo much money on drinks! Usually even soda pop costs too when you are out and about on the ship and it can really add up. Our solution to that was to buy many, many, many of those little plastic booze bottles like they give you on the airplanes. They aren't allowed either, but I cleverly rolled them up individually in my socks and undies and other things packed deep in my checked luggage. Worked every time. They will xray your bags (both checked and unchecked) and pull any liquor bottles they find in there. They don't take them permanently, but "nicely" hold them until your return. Double Dirty Dogs!!! On our last trip, we thought we'd be really clever and pack Vodka in our carryon bags in Scope bottles - one tinted blue and the other green to look like the mouthwash. I even carefully cut the plastic seals on the caps with an Xacto knife, dumped the Scope, refilled with colored Vodka, and super glued the cuts I made in the seals. It looked soooooo good! Not a problem at all getting it on board. It was an old trick I learned in college to keep booze in your room....tint it and put it right on the cabinet in a mouthwash bottle. Only problem with that trick was....in college all the bottles were glass and no problem. Now, everything is PLASTIC and once we got on the ship all our Vodka was "minty fresh" if you know what I mean. The plastic retains some of that flavor even though I washed them out really well. My husband drank it anyway, but I think he was just being the typical stubborn guy....it tasted horrible in my opinion. He said he'd never do it again, which leads me to the "stubborn" idea. Anyway, I think the little bottles are best because they are looking for big ones in the xray checks and they miss those little guys. That is assuming that you drink. Now if you guys are beer drinkers, you have a problem. If you have your own booze, you can have a free drink in your room in the evening and mix drinks for poolside by buying cans of mix on board (cheaper than the booze). Take big insulated drink cups with caps and a straw for the pool - bar drinks melt too fast.

If you are inclined, the spa is really a treat. It's expensive too, though. We enjoyed attending the onboard art auctions too. Each day the ship will publish a newsletter to tell you about the ship, activities, and shore excursions....as well as information about your ports of call. Read it....it's great for helping you decide what to do. There is more to do than you'll be able to schedule, so be sure and allow for some serious goof off time around the pool.

Hope this helps a little. I know you will have a fabulous time!!!

STOP. Like I just posted to susan58, We all have some type of battle around our knees that has made us stronger and admirable. Any bravery or strength I have comes from God. The blessing of my healing has been through his grace. Not by my works, but by his. I whine plenty. Don't you worry! :-)
And he has also blessed me with this forum and all of you. I've learned plenty, laughed lots, cried some and maybe even made a friend or 2.

1joint@ aka karen - Your daughters are absolutely beautiful. how old are they?

Jamie,
As a retired cop, I really found your smuggling techniques ah, entertaining. It brought back a flood of memories. Since Tallahassee is the home of two universities and a community college, we always have students trying what they think is something new.
It was fun when you stopped a car. They try to all look innocent. "Yes sir, we just left a church youth function". Uh, huh, it's a.m. the bars just closed. I smell dope and beer. With the girls, "O, how did that get there".
With me their punishment rather than arrest was to get the parents home numbers and let them know what they were paying for while the kids were at college. I would dump the drinks, and let them watch as I scattered the pot to the wind...Unless they got an attitude...then is was jail.

Thanks Jen. They are all great daughters and always a big help. Chelsea, with the pink tiara, was celbrating her 18th birthday last month. She graduates high school in June. Rachel and Emily, laying in the hammock, are 24 and 25. I think they look much younger. Rachel, on the left, is the one that graduated from Florida State and will be returning this summer. Emily is a free spirit. Since graduating college, she's lived and worked in Germany for a year and now she is living in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Doug, I thought about you when I was writing that....thought you might find it amusing. The sad thing about me is that those things I learned in college carried on into adulthood - at least where the cruises and liquor are concerned. It's a wonder my parents survived me....I was constantly pushing the envelope, even though I never got into any real trouble. No drugs, though....never got into that, thankfully. Glad I could entertain you!

Patti, you have a real southern bell beauty pagent going on in your family, Mom, you and now your daughter....

You're sweet. She's engaged to the guy with his lips on her face!!!....she hasn't set a date yet. She'll be 28 on 8-8-08......she was 8 on 8-8-88....we thought that was so cool!

And a cute baby girl. Like her cute mama girl!! Same smile...Do I detect the Pattipoo evil gleam in her eyes???

Doug did you see her LITTLE brother on the other thread yet? He trains strippers! Right Patti?
