Percocet, I see a lot of my friends across the big pond take it,or have taken it. Is that the brand name?or the drug itself? and do we have an equivalent over here in the UK. I,m sure Josephine will Know. Cheers Klinger. ps- not that I,m looking for pain-killers myself.

You are starting to sound like a drug seeker. You know they keep track of folks like you in our hospitals... the tag the charts... :) Just messin' wif ya, as Patti would say.

Nope - all these drugs like Percocet and oxycodone are unknown to me. Though I'm sure a learned pharmacist will one day say to me "Oh, they the same as XYZ"!!

Klinger, Percoset is a name brand that is very popular here in the states (like Advil is to ibuprofen) it is actually oxycodone, it comes in different strengths, I take 5-325 apap
it is a narcotic and very addictive if abused. My dr only allowed me to take it for 2 weeks, today was my last day.
I took 2 of them every 4 hours. Plus oxydodone HCL CR 20 mg which is sort of like a time released form of the same drug, you take 1 every 12 hours.
After today I have been switched to Vicodin (again just a popular brand name) but is actually hydrocodone-apap 5-500.
If you look them up on line you will see other names the same drug is prescribed under.
I find the percocet stronger for the most part.
I take vicodin 2 every 4 hours as well.
Here in the states due to so much abuse at least in PA you know have to personally pick up a refill prescription from your doctor for percocet they are no longer by law permitted to call in a refill for you. However for the vicodin they can call it in. Neither one will allow refills on the bottle as many drugs do.
That's all I know. But if you google them you will be surprised of the info you will find. I did that in January when I had to start all this jazz.
Also with both you can absolutely have withdrawal symptoms, so when ready to reduce you must do so little by little. If not many people react differently, but you can get the shakes, sweats, you feel like you have the flu. Happened to me 3 times before I asked someone and figured it out. Of course had I read the insert with the meds completely I may have known this.

I take the hydrocodone 10/325. It's plenty strong and I can take two if necessary. It's been totally adequate for my pain.

Well I'm taking my Oxycodone down with me to visit family. They will probably be wondering why I'm sitting there staring at the fish tank for hours...Oh I thought that was the Discovery Channel.

See, we have nothing akin to that in the UK.

Josephine, then what do they commonly give over there?

OMG....I feel SORRY for people with NO percocet!! Even though it makes me itch a little, I don't know WHAT I would have done without it. It took away BIG pain.

In recovery:
Morphine
Fentanyl (Duragesic)
Pethidine
Paracetamol IV

later:
Cocodomol (codeine phosphate+paracetamol)
dihydrocodeine (DF118)
diclofenac (Voltarol)
codeine phosphate

Anyone taking tylox, tylenol 3, tylenol w/codine? I had it in hospital. Seemed OK but "landed" on the percs. Probably stronger than TY... whatever.

Hi jose googled it,from what I,ve read its properties are slightly akin to our codeine but with the strength of something like tramadol. cheers klinger.

I take the percocet every four hours except when I am sleeping. I try to go longer and do when I can bear the pain. I never thought that I would need it still. I also take the oxycodone time release every 12 hours and I try to push that time too. I have never been on these drugs before and only know of them from news reports about people getting addicted. After PT, even with the pain killers, I feel like I have been hit by a bus. I had bilateral TKR six weeks ago and do PT three times a week as well as a pool workout three times a week. I was very happy to read here on this website that the itching is from the percocet but I also have trouble sleeping and seem to be able to cry for no reason. Can't wait to get back to "NORMAL" thank goodness I live in South Florida where at least it is warm. Still shuffling around in Florida.

The percocet itch is not too bad. It's there but not like I need to scrath raw. Anyone get a little startle feeling when dozing from it?
