There is a condition called peau d'orange that makes the skin resemble the skin of an orange. Most commonly, it presents itself as a marker for breast cancer. In post TKR legs it is caused by excessive edema. I obviously have this. Has anyone else experienced this skin condition?

Not in relation to my KRs. Sorry #2 is going so much rougher than the first.

Hmmmm - I don't think so - now if it was peauDstrawberry I would be right there with you. Although I don't have an orange type texture. I do have excessive edema. Even the nurse at today's hip injection made a comment about my red leg. Sorry I can't be of more help.

The edema is not really all that excessive. Just that the texture of the skin resembles that of a navel orange. Some of the swelling has diminished but not the orange specs. My OS seemed more amused by it than anything. Much more amused than I.

dw, sorry about the orange peel...I wonder if it would help if you rubbed some hydro cortisone cream on it.
Secondly, with the long term swelling we have had to deal with, and us not being exactly "young bucks", is this caused by stretched skin that simply isn't tightening back up??? just a thought..

Thanks Doug, I have hit it w/ hyrdrocortisone, aquaphor, mederma, vaseline's new heal and repair (which is a fabulous new product for skin repair). So far,
nada. Certainly not life-threatening but when the light hits it just right: it is creepy.

How bout I just send you an electric sander???? Buff that sucker down....
I'm having to sit around with ice today. Last evening, my son decided he needed to attack dad. He jumped in my lap. As I repelled the attack, he rolled across my knee and hyper extended it. Something popped and now it is stiff. Never stops does it?

I suspect it never will. This kind of surgery, whether physically or psychologically, will always impact our day to day lives. An hour of the day does not pass w/o some knee issue coming up. Of course the alternative would have been a wheelchair eventually so it is a minimal price to pay. I hope icing the knee will reduce the swelling. If my son barreled into either of my titanium knees I would be back on the surgical table..

It's funny how my son who turns 15 on Halloween likes to wrestle with me..I know he's getting to be a little too much for me but I won't admit it to him..

electric sander equivalent to apricot scrub? Just askin'.

Oh boy, go ahead, bring up one tiny mistake.
