Anyone have a pain like a pinching of tissue between the mechanical joint and the knee cap. 7 months after partial knee replacement?

Hi, and welcome! I had 2 PKRs 11 months apart. Laterals (outside) of each leg. I’m at the 9 month mark for the second one.
My thread, FYI, is PKR Ligament Sprain in the Good Leg. This describes my soft tissue issues with this first leg.
I’m sure the BS experts will soon reply to you.

Welcome to Bonesmart! I bet that what you are experiencing is what we call zingers. They are nerves that are reattaching or rerouting. They are temporary and eventually go away.

Please tell us about your surgery: which knee it was and the exact date of it. We will add it to your signature so we will better know how to advise you.

Even though your surgery was months ago, I'll still leave you our recovery articles. They help to explain what all you have been going through and will still go through.

The following are our basic guidelines and should help get you started. As you read more on other members recovery threads, you’ll get a better perspective of what to expect and what not to do, especially regarding PT.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now; they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for TKRs

The Recovery articles:
The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart
Swollen and stiff knee: what causes it?
Energy drain for TKRs
Elevation is the key
Ice to control pain and swelling
Heel slides and how to do them properly
Chart representation of TKR recovery
Healing: how long does it take?

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

There are also some cautionary articles here

Myth busting: the "window of opportunity" in TKR

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery.

While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Hello @LKs - and :welome:

I'm sorry you're experiencing this pain. Have you talked to your surgeon about it? If so, what does he/she say?

Please will you tell us the full date of your knee replacement and which knee it is, also what type of partial knee replacement you had (medial, lateral, or patello-femoral), so we can make a signature for you? That information will help us to advise you more appropriately. Thank you.

Right.. medial ... June 10, 2019
Left ... Medial... Nov 11, 2019

Also the right one.. I am 7 months out, ... When I asked in October, they said it could be from walking to protect left knee, to wait and see.

And thank you everyone

How has your recovery been going? Have you done a lot of PT?

Hi, yes I went 3x a week at first then 2x a week, down to one time a week and the rest on my own.. I bought one of those mini pedal things to work my knees, just got it this week. I like it and think it helps.. I am going to up my home therapy exercise frequency, cause I am almost thinking I am not doing enough.

Have you always, or often, had this pain, or is it new?

It is not a good idea to increase your exercises when you are having pain. If you like the peddler and find it helpful, use that. Walking, though not to excess, is also good. Movement is good for a healing knee. However, overworking a painful knee will not fix the pain. Keep it mobile but give it more time to heal, also.

Thank you, yes I have been reading some of the links, after I posted that. And realize I don't plan to do more or harder, just realizing I have been kind of lackadaisical about it, since we finished up our family Christmas stuff late, and I was skipping some homework cause I was "too busy". Then when I got done being to busy I think I relaxed to much!

Hi..I am finding my way around the forum( forums kind of confuse me).. is there a place to see what the often used abbreviations mean? Like what is IT? I am sure I will figure it all out but hoping for a cheat sheet :)

Yes, we have a cheat sheet! :heehee:

Here’s a link to the whole list of articles is the Bonesmart Library. Lots of topics there!

These are the things we call Activities of Daily Living (ADLs for short) As long as you are moving around, doing things as you are able, these count as, what I like to call, “natural” PT.

Some of our members don’t go to formal PT, but they are reasonably active, as they are able, and their knee heals fine. So, it’s ok that you were too busy to do a list of exercises, you gave your knee natural movement, which is very good for it, and really, that’s all it needs-reasonable movement.
