Pappy has had his surgery on tuesday. It has been a long hard road. He got to come home friday afternoon. He has been so sick on his stomach, nauseated and pain. Maybe it will soon get better.

Thanks and God Bless!

did they prescribe something good for nausea and pain???
No reason for him to be so miserable.
I also had major problems with nausea in the hospital, that was the worst of it all.
Glad the surgery is over though

There is no reason for your loved one to suffer with the nuasea so many get with narcotic pain relief. I am sure his surgeon would prescribe something to ease this for him. Wishing him a quick recovery and relief from the nausea he now suffers from. Rowdy

we called the doctor this morning and he called him a prescription in for nausea, hopefully this will help! Thanks for everyones concern and God Bless.

Bubblezz I really hope you continue to post and maybe when Pappy is more up to it he will be able to post as well. There is no better group of people than you will find here and Josephine is a marvel, a surgical nurse who gives freely of herself to those in need and does so with a wonderful wit and compassion. I have yet to see one person who found this site who was not immediately received with warmth and all the things you would wish to find in a good friend and advisor. We cheer each other on, celebrate each others successes and commiserate together over the hard times that we all have in varying degrees. I think I can safely say that for the vast majority of the people who post here finding this site was akin to a lifesaving devise being thrown overboard a boat/ship to a person adrift. Looking forward to hearing more about Pappy's progress and how you are getting along helping him. You know your job, helping Pappy, is so very important. You will find yourself his therapist, his nurse, his friend and his cheerleader, even at times the person who may have to inspire him to take that next painful step. Just remember there is an end in sight and the day will come when his knees will not be the first or only thing he things about, it just takes time to get there. Good luck. Rowdy

Rowdy,

What a message, you hit the nail on the head. This forum has been the best thing that has happen to me since my knee poblems that I have put off for years. If it wasn't for the support that your wonder people gave to me I would not have BTKR. This forum is a GOD SEND!

God Bless you one and all,
Rick

nausea may be from the pain relief meds or from the anaesthetic. my husband had his surgery on thursday last week and the day after was challenging as far as pain/nausea went but he is now walking with crutches and showered independently yesterday. He takes regular pain meds and that seems to be the key.

maybe a different pain med would be more helpful than the ones he is having. anything with a morphine base can be nauseating and also constipating.

one day at a time :)))))

thanks to everyone for their concern and support...the nausea is better but now he has had a problem with his coumadin level. it was 6.9 when the home health nurse checked it. so we had to go back to hospital for him to be checked for blood clot because of pain and bruising in his calf. also he cannot put his foot all the way down when walking on the walker. he is walking tiptoed. he has had a rough time. today i take him back to the dr. i guess he is getting his staples out. he said if he knew it was going to be this bad he would have never had it done.......
thanks,

Everybody says that at 2-4 weeks! In another 2-3 months he'll be thinking differently!

Bubblezz, Don't let Pappy get you down, in a couple of weeks he will feel entirely differently, trust me on that. The first two weeks are the worst and for some worse than others. It will pass, and he will get better. Sounds like he has a really good support system and a caring surgeon, that is more than half the battle. I am about 4 1/2 months post surgery and I still have days that are not wonderful but decidedly better than any day I had for two years prior to surgery. It is just that the early days are rough. To be honest, when I think back to what we have all been through and survived I am truly amazed and when I realize how fortunate we are to live in a time and place where such surgery is possible. I cannot imagine how I could have lived with the pain I was in much longer to be honest with you. I worry more about you wearing yourself out taking care of Pappy and worrying about him than I do Pappy, he has a team of doctors to help him amd he will be okay once he gets past these first couple of weeks. Does he have a lot of swelling? I am sorry, you might have said and I just don't remember, afraid I have had a bit of a hair raiser myself today between my legs and my back and doing too much. Anyway, hang in there and know there are a lot of people here that are pullling for you and Pappy. As the old saying goes, "This to shall pass." Keep posting and when you feel like venting remember we are here for that too. We've all done our share, believe me. Look forward to more posts from you. Good luck, Rowdy
