Just wondered if anyone has experienced a very high level of pain on the outside edge of your new knee, that is piercing and feels like nerve pain. It gets much worse after exercise and shoots down your leg to the foot and up the leg to your lower back? From what I understand the nerves are the last thing to heal and can take up to at least 6 months?

You are correct about the nerves, Calley. They make those stabbing type pains when they are making contact again and becoming functional. Those "zingers" don't last forever....fortunately!!!

Whew! Very glad to hear that they don't last forever. They pop up out of nowhere and zing right up your spine!

Calley, I had some serious stabbing pains that felt like being stabbed with a hot ice pick, along the outside and on top of my knee. They came on after I over-used my knee, stooping and bending and standing. They went away after a few days.

I spoke with the surgeon, seems it is the main pepheral nerve, good news is there is medication that helps so you are not held back from continuing to increase ROM and it works! Have been taking for two days, I already have had relief, at last, and for the first time in 6 weeks, have been able to lay on my side, even if it is a few minutes, every little step counts on the way to recovery, thanks for the input. Hope this information helps anyone else experiencing this God awful, hot stabbing, unending pain.

Calley:
I had those, mostly from the lateral side of my knee, down the side of my shin to my foot. Man, did they HURT!!!
They gradually went away, and now I can't recall how long they lasted, but they have been gone at least 5 months.
Nerve pain is nasty. Jo recommended I try moist heat, and I do remember that helping alot. I actually am using it for a nasty pain behind my knee....so it goes.

Calley, I'm delighted that you've found an answer and a remedy. Long may it continue to work for you.

But could I ask you (and anyone else reading this) to please put your surgery dates in your signature. I see you have your name in there but surgery dates would be so useful to me, the rest of the mods and everyone else when we are answering your questions. Thanks muchly!
