I am 8 weeks out from LTHR. I am back at work full time. I walk with out my cane to build up the muscles. I have noticed a dull pain deep in my left buttock, after I walk a bit, like something is poking out. Is this normal or is it something I should call my doctor about? I just had my 8 week check up last Friday and everything was good. I go back in 3 months.

Hey Mark I its been awhile....Im sorry you are having some trouble. Im a knee but others will be along soon. I hope you can get that straightened out soon. Good Luck to you.....:)

Well, I think it sounds like you should still be taking pain meds. What you are describing is deep, uncontrolled wound pain and swelling and there is no need for you to be experiencing this. Pop the pills - you're still early days and have a lot more healing to be got through yet.

I'm not sure why you are trying so hard to be without pain meds and a cane at this early stage. Going back to work at this early stage is forcing your body to do a lot of work and it might make your recovery a little less painful if you took even some over-the-counter anti-inflammants and allowed yourself the cane at least some of the time.

Ummmm....Mark!!! THAT'S what the pain meds are for! Sounds like normal, healing pain!

Hi Mark,
That pain in the butt is your hip telling you "enough already". I am 3 weeks since my last surgery and get about quite a bit without my cane, but I keep it handy as my hips let me know as yours is doing when I have pushed them too far.
I am anxious to be out and going again, but this is a long healing process and time is our greatest ally. Are you walking on a concrete floor at work? That will not help your hip.

I work in an office and I still use my cane most of the time. I go with out it for short walks to the restroom or water fountain to help build the muscles. As far as pain I take ibuprofen.

IBU doesn't sound like it's enough at this time. Take the pain meds!! No trophy for hurting, or not taking the narcotic pain relievers. I went back to work at a month -- I am the service manager at a motorcycle dealer, lots of walking around, getting up and down, and sitting too. It was way too early in hindsight, but I had to to not end up homeless and take care of my family. What you are describing I experienced 100%. I took the pain meds! It was still hard , but they made it bearable.
Mark please do yourself a favor and take them. Can you ice at work?? I would try that too. I never got much relief from ice, but I know most people get some relief from that. Try it man, and keep us posted.

hey mark. im 7 weeks out and i cut mine in half but have mostly gone without this last week. what i do love is my mobic. it keeps the stiffness at bay and i'm pretty comfortable doing all i need to . pain meds just make me feel bad so this works for me. sounds like your doing great monique

i almost forgot. when i sit with most of my weight on my opperated side like right now the muscles right thru my butt let me know it. especially if i sit for too long.
