Ok at the possibility of sounding like a total idiot my pain is out on the outside, right in the bend of the leg. It feels like that muscle or whatever it may be is tight like a banjo string. I can't get it stretched out enough ever. The PT does massage it sometimes and I use icy hot to try and relax it. I have done several different kinds of excercises but nothing seems to help. Is this what you're referring to as the Iliotibial band? I don't think it is but can someone advise?

Juls, I moved you post into a thread of it's own so's not to derail Nancy's thread and to get you responses of your own.

As for your painful spot, sounds to me like the hamstrings which often get inflammed after strenuous or unaccustomed PT. Your PT should be being more aggressive in treating this. You need good deep massage, lay off the exercises that are making it worse, like leg curls and extension lifts, use COLD packs, not hot - that only increases the inflammation - and takes some NSAIDS like Advil if you are able. If this doesn't work, see your OS and maybe he will inject the area with some steroids stuff to hurry the healing.

This is a picture of the hamstrings ...
