I'm 10 1/2 months out on a RTKR and am not sure exactly what I have done, but I must have done something wrong cuz my leg hurts. It does not hurt when weight is applied and/or when I walk straight. But if I do the slightest twist motion, I have pain....sometimes right across the kneecap, other times on the inside beside the joint or sometimes down the shin bone. I had similar pain (but to a lesser degree) when I overdid the exercise bike a month or so ago. But this time it actually sometimes hurts when I'm sitting or lying down. I'm whining, I know, but I'm not sure exactly what I should be doing. I tried icing/elevating, but that really has made no difference. My Aleve is not cutting the pain, so yesterday I took a Celebrex. That did make the pain less, so that makes me think I have some inflammation in there. I've been working out with my trainer on Wednesdays and fear that would not be a good thing to do tomorrow. I had the pain to a lesser degree last Wednesday when I worked out and now it's worse. Do you guys think I should rest? stretch? exercise? continue the Celebrex (it impacts my Coumadin if I stay on it)? I was thinking maybe instead of the regular workout, I could just do the bike or walk or do the eliptical machine. Help!!! I'm sorry to be such a wimp, but I just want to stop hurting as soon as possible so I can get on with things!!!

Jamie,
I know you've worked hard with the new knee...
I would suggest you just take a few days off and relax the leg a little. Are you getting any swelling?? If not, I'd put some heat on it.
I'm wondering if it's weather related. I know mine is deep sore today and we're having another unusually cold spell for us N. Floridians.

I'm guessing there is swelling. Usually I get the swelling inside and it doesn't really show...just hurts. This just seems a little worse than before. I didn't think to try heat, but I will. It may work. I might think it's weather related, but it started about a week ago and has just gotten worse. Also, it REALLY hurts when I do anything that slightly twists the joint, so that leads me to believe I may have inflamed something in there. Sadly, I think it may be the result of my trainer workouts, so I've told Angie I must take it easy for a while and just do routine things. She has been trying hard to build up my quads and improve balance as she knows we are headed off on a cruise in about a month. Bless her heart, I guess she may have worked my ol' leg a bit too hard. It's difficult to make the connection, though, because (as it did the last time when I KNOW I overdid it), the swelling comes days after the event. I'm a sad case, huh!!! Thanks for your suggestions and I'll let you know how the heat works when I have some time that I can sit still to apply it.

Jamie, I'm so sorry the knee hurts still. Doug is probably right, a couple days res and go from there. Did that help the first time? If rest doesn't cut it, no harm in getting it checked.

I'd bet, if the trainer has been working you extra hard you have a case of the "itis" as Jo calls it. RICE. Rest, ice, compression, and elevation...Plus, anti inflammatants.

Hi Jamie.
It definitely sounds like you overdid it with your work outs! I agree totally with Doug,,,,,,,R I C E, & give it a few days to REST! Your not whining, girl,,,,,who wouldn't be concerned,,,,especially since you"re STILL healing! Don't forget that!

I know, I know....I keep forgetting that my two years of healing are nowhere near up yet. It's just so hard when you start feeling frisky and then get the reins pulled up hard. Rats!!!

Thanks, guys....guess I just needed some straight talk and a little sympathy. I'll be the one resting on the sidelines for a bit.

All been said ... now all you gotta do is take the advice and be kind to yourself! But never feel like you have to apologise for unloading on us. That's exactly what we're here for.

Now be a good girl and listen to Jo! RELAX!!!!

Whap! Wham! Bonk! Slap!

Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for me. Once again, I'm going to try and be better....gosh it's difficult to be good! Thanks, guys....you're the greatest!!! And the MOST understanding.

A big hug, Jamie...I'm about a month behind you and have had a couple of similar episodes when I've overdone it. Everyone's already told you the necessary stuff so I'll just add in my sympathy and empathy. On the bright side, my episodes went away within a week or so after I backed off; hopefully yours will disappear quickly too.

Hugs...

I had a workout with my trainer today for an hour and I took it easy. For the most part she had me doing things that didn't involve my legs (except 20 minutes on the bike). We modified one floor exercise where I usually kneel....just didn't want to risk that. I was pooped at the end of the hour (a good thing) and my knee still feels fine. The real test will be how it feels over the weekend. It was definitely better today and so if it hurts again on the weekend, I'm gonna stop everything for a couple of weeks until the pain is all gone. I've also been better with my Aleve....taking one every 12 hours whether I need it or not. That is probably what' helping more than anything. I plan to keep that up for at least a few more days. Thanks again everyone for the support. I does certainly help when you go through a rough patch.
