Hello I am a 33 year old female who had a THR last may. The last few weeks I have been in so much pain just like I was before my THR. The pain is in my lower buttock, thigh and groin. It's worse first thing in the morning when I get out of bed and later in afternoon after I jave been doing heaps or have sat down and go to stand up.

In bed at night I'm in so much pain and am not sleeping.

Went to the Drs on Monday and had a blood tests and xray. Still waiting on blood test results but I have my xray results which I will try and upload. I go see my specialist on the 26th of this month.

My question is . What do you think the specialist will do?

    REPORT FINDINGS:
The acetabular cup seems appropriately sited. However a subtle lucency is shown in zone 1 and zone 2 of the acetabular cup. Additionally there is peri-hardware lucency shown around the acetabular screw suggestive of focal osteolysis. Both these appear marginally more conspicuous compared to prior radiograph of 11/07/17

In the available AP radiograph there are some degenerative change shown in the right hip joint mild symphysis pubis arthropathy shown. Remainder of the osseous pelvis is grossly withon normal limits.

    IMPRESSION:
Subtle lucency seen around the acetabular screw with a mild lucency shown in zone 1 and zone 2 of the acetabular cup suggesting focal osteolysis and some acetabular hardware loosening.

The femoral stem in appropriately sited.

Thank you @Layla I am so glad I found this site

I am a little worried too @Jaycey as to what it all means. My guess is a hip revision which I learnt about from this site. I only found it last night.

Well that says it all, really. Though I'd really like to see the xray. Think you can get a copy for me?

I dont actually have the xray my dr does. I juat got a copy of report to give to my specialist.
I got my blood test results. The dr said My CRPs level is suppose to be about 5 and mine is 21. But everything else in bloods were fine.
Without looking at my xray and me telling you what all the reports say what do you think they will do? @Josephine

If it really is loose, there's no answer but to have the cup revised.

Not sure I would use the same surgeon for any revision. Do you have the option of seeing a revision specialist?

I had never even heard of revision surgery or anything like that before until coming on this site about a week or so ago. I had already booked in to see my specialist as I had to see him for my 12 month check up in May anyway. I'm not sure if he is a revision specialist. I will do some research to see if I can find one.

Why don't you think I shouldn't see same specialist for the revision? I'm nervous now

You will want to see your surgeon, and see what he says. You need that first opinion.

We usually recommend seeing another surgeon for a second opinion.
    1. The original surgeon may have difficulty admitting there is a problem.
    2. If they were the cause of the problem, you don't want to give them another chance.
    3. An OS that specializes in revisions has the experience and education to determine what has happened.

You can search for an OS who specializes in revisions and/or complex joint reconstruction.

Good luck in your search for answers.

Thank you @Pumpkln for your advise. I will be doing some research in the morning.
I will keep you all updated.
