I had a bilateral THR done in 2011. It went well and have been functioning normally ever since.
But now I have a new problem: After having Osteopenia for a number of years, my latest bone density scan now shows osteoporosis.

Are there any folks on here who are discussing this please? I don't see where this forum has an osteoporosis group. I am looking for support and maybe information on how this is likely to affect me going forward.

Hi @Bodhicat and welcome to BoneSmart.

While we don't have an osteoporosis group, but we do have members who have discussed this topic before. Here's a link to one thread from last year you may find helpful: https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/anyone-have-low-bone-density-osteoporosis.66839/
You can find other threads on the topic by using the Search feature in the upper right hand corner of the tool bar.

Also, the title of your thread itself may garner interest and responses from others who are dealing with this issue.

In the meantime, if you will share the date of your bilateral THR, we'll create a signature for you so you can fully participate in the forum.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Thank you for your nice reply and link to thread pertaining to osteoporosis. My bilateral THR date was Jan. 24 and Feb. 9, 2011, 2 weeks apart.

Just saw this so late to the game...but wanted to share my own experience which is document on my blog at https://s2cycle.com/sheila/osteoporosis/

Short version is I had osteoporosis when I broke my hip in 2013 and started taking a natural and balanced supplement program and walking 10K steps daily and my bones have improved at every 2 year DexaScan since then. I no longer have osteoporosis. There's a lot of resources and references on my blog. I'd be happy to message with you if you have questions. I'm not a professional and I'm not selling anything.
