Hi All
Sorry I have had to be away from the forum for a week or so but I have been sooooo busy.
Went to see my OS for my first post op appointment on 9th June, which would be about 7 weeks post op.
He is very happy with the way I am progressing and suggested I keep doing what I am doing and all will be fine :wahey:
He checked my ROM and was happy with my progress (although it less than 90 still !)
When I mentioned the 90 degree thing he said he didn't care if it took 3 months or 12 months ( :shk: )to get to 90 degrees. He is more interested in the longevity of the new hip and says that taking my time and building my muscles up is THE most important factor in long term success :thmb::D
All my restrictions were lifted :wahey::wahey:- which was superb news as I was struggling sleeping on my back (or not sleeping lol :D) but he did say just to be aware of the initial dislocation precautions because my muscles still need a lot of strengthening before I can really put the hip to the test. He put this down to the severity of my condition pre op and the extra work he had to do in there compared to a 'standard' hip replacement.
I asked him about the type of hip he had fitted and he gave me a run down - it seems that he 'mixes and matches' but I didn't write it down
The bits I can remember are - an ML stem with an alu something cup fitted with a metal bearing surface - giving a MOM joint. And two screws (one of which snapped in surgery !! lol ).
AM mostly off the crutches / stick - just using one when doing a long walk with the dog now really (he pulls a lot ! lol
)
I am still progressing way beyond my expectations and have no trouble walking / driving etc.
Just a little wary of doing anything a little too heavy (like lifting) but still do something new every day - which is great !!!:thmb::thmb:
I can touch parts of my leg that I have not reached for years and that is great too!
I am still having PT which is a real help as well, with new exercises each week to help me build up muscle strength and get my butt back - lol :D:D
All in all then - I am still very very happy with my progress and I still LOVE MY NEW HIP sooooo much :thmb::thmb::D:D
And I still cannot believe I AM PAIN FREE -
:wahey::wahey:
Hope you are all as pleased with your new bionic bits as I am
Kind regards
Andy
