Hi All
Sorry I have had to be away from the forum for a week or so but I have been sooooo busy.

Went to see my OS for my first post op appointment on 9th June, which would be about 7 weeks post op.
He is very happy with the way I am progressing and suggested I keep doing what I am doing and all will be fine :wahey:
He checked my ROM and was happy with my progress (although it less than 90 still !)
When I mentioned the 90 degree thing he said he didn't care if it took 3 months or 12 months ( :shk: )to get to 90 degrees. He is more interested in the longevity of the new hip and says that taking my time and building my muscles up is THE most important factor in long term success :thmb::D

All my restrictions were lifted :wahey::wahey:- which was superb news as I was struggling sleeping on my back (or not sleeping lol :D) but he did say just to be aware of the initial dislocation precautions because my muscles still need a lot of strengthening before I can really put the hip to the test. He put this down to the severity of my condition pre op and the extra work he had to do in there compared to a 'standard' hip replacement.

I asked him about the type of hip he had fitted and he gave me a run down - it seems that he 'mixes and matches' but I didn't write it down
The bits I can remember are - an ML stem with an alu something cup fitted with a metal bearing surface - giving a MOM joint. And two screws (one of which snapped in surgery !! lol ).

AM mostly off the crutches / stick - just using one when doing a long walk with the dog now really (he pulls a lot ! lol  )

I am still progressing way beyond my expectations and have no trouble walking / driving etc.
Just a little wary of doing anything a little too heavy (like lifting) but still do something new every day - which is great !!!:thmb::thmb:
I can touch parts of my leg that I have not reached for years and that is great too!

I am still having PT which is a real help as well, with new exercises each week to help me build up muscle strength and get my butt back - lol :D:D

All in all then - I am still very very happy with my progress and I still LOVE MY NEW HIP sooooo much :thmb::thmb::D:D

And I still cannot believe I AM PAIN FREE - :wow::wahey::wahey:

Hope you are all as pleased with your new bionic bits as I am

Kind regards
Andy

That's excellent, Andy. You must be well pleased with your new life and freedom! :thmb:

Hi Andy

That just sounds so fantastic - well done you! :D!

You sound so very positive about it all and I am so sure that this sort of attitude really helps during the recovery process.

I am glad you are back driving, but have you managed to get behind the wheel of that MG yet https://images.google.co.uk/imgres?...wing&hl=en&rlz=1T4HPNN_enGB311__204&sa=G&um=1- they are a bit low to get into. I have trouble getting in the passenger side of my Skyline (hubbie has to cart me round in this even though he hates it, but I cannot get up into his Trooper).

Keep up the excellent work :thmb:

Great news, Andy!!! I'm so happy to hear it! Don't worry if it takes a while to get that range of motion....the important thing is that you're getting your life back.

Great news, Andy! And don't worry! You won't be tested on what your bionics are ,,,,,now go and ENJOY life pain free.....YAY!!!

Very Happy for you Andy sounds like you are doing great. You will get there the 90 not sure what that means. Im a knee person myself but if you are progressing thats all that counts. I agree about they dog they sure can go cant they....keep up the good work................

Well done Andy, I was wondering where you were.....living life ....who said THR patients were allowed to live a normal life????? LOL
My 90 degrees isn't there either.....all good things come to those who wait!!! My OS said to keep stretching, and to do lots of 'yoga' type stretches.

Keep walking that dog
Rachel

I've managed to get an exercise bike from Stephen's sister.....I'm really pleased with that!...its 1/2 an hour each day!

Hi Rachel :D
Yes - I'm afraid I am guilty of having my life back AND living it :hehe::hehe::hehe:
Funny - but you do feel a little strange about it (or I do anyway !) - it's almost like that 'naughty' feeling kicks in when you do something that you couldn't do - or something new that you may not be allowed to !! Or am I just strange ?? LOL :hehe::hehe::hehe:

Nice to know we don't have to worry about the 90 degs - as you say it will come to those who wait (and stretch lol !)

Jack (the dog ) can't ever remember having this many walks :D:D
Caught him with his paws in a foot spa yesterday :D:D:D:hehe::hehe::hehe: he he he

Haven't tried an exercise bike yet - sounds great - will ask PT if I can have a go on theirs :thmb:

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy

That just sounds so fantastic - well done you! :D!

You sound so very positive about it all and I am so sure that this sort of attitude really helps during the recovery process.

I am glad you are back driving, but have you managed to get behind the wheel of that MG yet - they are a bit low to get into. I have trouble getting in the passenger side of my Skyline (hubbie has to cart me round in this even though he hates it, but I cannot get up into his Trooper).

Hi Steph
Glad you are getting out and about too - I am sure it won't be long before you are back at the wheel :thmb:

I have driving the MG for about 10 days now - which is part of why I haven't been posting so much - lol - FREEDOM :wahey::wahey:
I have been able to get in and out OK - probably because I had developed an interesting (if a little comical to others !) way of getting in when I had very little hip movement...so I used that initially - which meant I did not have to flex my hip too much...:thmb::hehe:. As my flexibility improves I will try and progress to a more 'normal' method of getting in and out - - maybe :hehe::hehe::hehe:

Another plus I have found car wise - I used to really feel any sideways force when cornering (very painful) and sharp bumps in the road (of which there are many round here) but now it is great !! NO PAIN :thmb::D So I can enjoy the handling of the MG with no penalty - which is really really great - I can now enjoy driving again - whoooo hoooo

To DianeC - thank you Diane

And to Josephine, Jamie, Judles, and Texas

Many thanks for your continued kind comments on my (and others) posts. You are the lifeblood of this fantastic community and offer sooooo much to soooo many people.
You all deserve medals :thmb::thmb::thmb:

Regards
Andy

 Awwww, Andy....

Now I'm working on the MG concept, but it almost sounds impossible....as I've said before... KIDS!!!

To be honest I haven't been doing that much.....just much of the same at the moment, but thats ok....I'm just hankering to get the house in order....how mundane is that?!

Rachel

You need one car just for you and one to carry the kids around Rachel :D

Or just one for me????

Now thats a far better option, put the kids on the bus instead :D.

Mind you I used to have a Toyota Celica when mine were younger, and it was in the days before the strict seat belt laws - you would be surprised how many kids I could fit in that car on the school run and then I could drive home all alone - bliss....

I had a friend who had 8 siblings, and a station wagon and they used to "rack em and stack em." No sitting in the back, they'd lie down flat on their sides and hoon into town ...lucky they had no accidents because that could have been really tragic!!

Have you seen the new 'Mini"?? They are gorgeous although I'm a real sucker for the new VW, had a beetle in my youth which I loved.....I'd love to have another....

Andy,
Keep up the good work, you are doing brilliantly and really keep the rest of us motivated with high spirits....
Rachel

You guys have really got to stop derailing other people's threads! Now you don't want me to get my wet noodle out, do you?
