I have had knee pain for the last almost 10 years. My GP ordered X-rays last week and confirmed my left knee is bone on bone. He referred me to an ortho and I am seeing him this week. My concern (one of them anyway) is my weight my last BMI was 48%. Just curious if anyone here is familiar with a surgeon in the palm beach county area who will do tkr on obese patients. I am not sure if the Dr I am going to see does or not.

    Thank You

@Flyingdiva Welcome to BoneSmart! So sorry you are suffering that bone on bone pain. It's very hard to lose weight when your mobility is limited due to pain. There are plenty of surgeons who will ignore issues with BMI. It's just sometimes tricky to find them.

I edited your thread title so that members in your area can offer suggestions. Good luck in your search!

I'm in your area, but I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. I would suggest that before you go for your appointment you call and ask. I am overweight by about 40 pounds but my weight wasn't mentioned by my surgeon. The only doc that mentioned my weight was my rheumatologist. I wish you the best.

I have a friend who is quite overweight (I don't know her BMI and never asked who her surgeon was) and her surgeon did both her knees, so there is obviously someone in the area who will do the surgery.

I went to see surgeon today. He did not have an issue with my weight. We are setting up date for knee replacement surgery. I am so scared! But also so excited to get my life back!
