After 7.5 weeks post op, I still have a slight opening in my incision. My OS says this is not good and recommended that he reopen a small portion of the incision then restitch it. This will be done this coming Wednesday, 8/20. I was amazed when he told me I actually have to have the procedure done in the hospital! Tuesday, I go in for my preop testing again! Since my surgery is at 4 pm in the afternoon, I'll work for most of the day on Wednesday then take Thursday off to recoup. I'm told I'll be fine to return to work on Friday.

Otherwise, all is well. I'm now walking with a cane. Have to focus to make sure I'm not walking with a limp. If I take it slow and make sure I place my foot correctly when taking a step I do fine. It's when I try to hurry that I fall back to my old habits. Isn't it funny how it took years for us to get to the condition we were presurgery - yet postsurgery we want everything fixed immediately? At least that's the case for me.

Hope all is well with everyone. Take care!

Good Luck on Wednesday. I never would have guessed you would have to go through so much for that problem. I know infection would be a major factor so I guess that contributes to it.

Why amazed? If you are going to have a re-suturing, then it needs to be done with all the proper aseptic technique, sterile instruments, scrubbed up, gloved and gowned skilled personnel, sterile drapes, a proper air conditioned, clean room not to mention the anaesthetic service. Can't take ANY risks with such a thing especially when there's a joint replacement underneath.

And yes - I bet you WILL be having a general anaesthetic or my name's not ...

Thanks for everyone's responses. Oh my, Josephine. I never thought about a general anesthesia. I had a spinal with my thr - do you think they'll do that instead? Guess I'll find out everything tomorrow at my preop.

~Carol

Don't worry about the anaesthesia - it will be quick and light. Such a bit of surgery rarely takes more than 10-15 minutes and so faffing around with a spinal isn't really worth it. Plus there shouldn't be more than some mild soreness and discomfort after. And you'll be up and away in a matter of hours, I'm sure.

I had my surgery (reopening incision and restitching it) yesterday. I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 2:30 pm, which I was. Due to an emergency appendectomy that bumped my surgery time, I didn't get wheeled into the operating room until 6:00 pm. Was wheeled into recovery at 7:15 pm.

My OS said the surgery was more extensive than he'd expected. He had to go wider and deeper with the new incision. He then removed more tissue than he'd planned. I'm doing great. Incision stings a little but no more pain than that. I'm off work today and tomorrow then will return on Monday.

Thanks for everyone's positive thoughts. I appreciate the support!

Well, glad it went okay, Carol. Did you have a GA then?

Josephine -

You were right on! Yes, I had a general. Getting me set up for the surgery took longer than the procedure itself, too!

Oh, she knows, y'know! (lol)
